Gateway Online Academy of Ohio is a fulltime, online option for students that need to catch-up and cross the finish line to high school graduation. ACCEL Schools uses a cutting-edge 21st-century curriculum, which can be accessed online and through a variety of traditional methods. Please note – while this is an online school position and all instruction occurs virtually, travel and face to face attendance will be required several times per year to support in person state testing and student events.

About the Opportunity

The Placement Counselor ensures that all students' documents are accurately converted to transcripts. This role partners with Registration and Guidance to ensure transcripts are received from other school districts. This role also works closely with our Guidance Counselors to ensure accurate course placement. ThePlacement Counselor will also contact other school districts when necessary.

As the Placement Coordinator you will support the following:

  • Review all incoming and current high school transcripts
  • Evaluate the high school credit hours to ensure an accurate conversion
  • Convert all high school credit hours to semesters
  • Ensure all codes and classes are accurate
  • Make recommendations for course placement
  • Analyze transcripts to determine graduation credits
  • Documenting test scores and seals earned
  • Track receipt of student records
  • Partner with Registrars to ensure records are received in a timely manner
  • Contact student's prior school districts regarding information on prior transcripts
  • Data collection and entry which includes course completions, scheduled classes and Senior Follow-up Survey
  • Send Mass communication to families in regard to guidance scheduled opportunities
  • Coordinating college visits
  • Updating Grad Plans
  • Keeping a master list of 504s, Spec Ed, CCP, IEP, Foster, Economically Disadvantaged and those needing Internet Connectivity, etc
  • Aid Guidance Counselors in their duties
  • Other duties as assigned

About You

  • Ohio residency
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Social Services, Related Field
  • 2 years of experience in the K-12 educational setting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite Products
  • Previous customer service experience in a school setting
  • Minimum of 1 year of school admissions experience preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly and exhibit sound judgement while maintaining confidentiality
  • Ability to make sound judgements/decisions after all available information has provided
  • Ability to work well under pressure, effectively prioritizing and executing tasks to meeting deadlines consistently
  • Ability to learn new technologies and acquire new skills through independent study, professional training, and from more senior team members
  • Prior experience working in a school setting preferred
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a team
  • Understanding and ability to manage confidential information
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.
  • Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks
