Position: Assistant Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations

Hours: Full-time, exempt 

Salary: $98K-$115K annually, DOE 

Location: Hybrid work environment that requires approximately 3 days/week in-person work at the Central Library in downtown Los Angeles with occasional travel to other Los Angeles Public Library locations throughout the city.

Position Description

The Assistant Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations is an enthusiastic and detail-oriented individual in a five-person team supporting fundraising for approximately 16 core LAPL programs as well as LFLA’s public projects and operational costs. The Assistant Director will lead collaborative efforts to develop, implement, and manage the department’s corporate giving and sponsorship program. They will also serve as the primary fundraiser and grant writer for a portfolio of LFLA public programs. The Assistant Director position is focused on engaging external library supporters through the fundraising cycle that includes identification, evaluation, solicitation, recognition, and stewardship. They will also work closely with LAPL staff to inform fundraising communications and make irresistible fundraising appeals, highlighting the importance of their role in the team.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership to develop, implement, and manage the department’s Corporate Giving program to increase the community impact of LFLA-supported projects.
  • Cultivate, develop, and oversee relationships with existing and new corporate supporters and local business groups that align with LFLA’s work and the projects it supports at LAPL.
  • Support departmental prospecting efforts, including researching potential new corporate supporters.
  • Help build and manage a stewardship and recognition program for corporate supporters.
  • Lead grant writing efforts and support reporting for five to eight established public programs and LFLA’s general operations, managing a portfolio of ~50 private foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
  • Research news, studies, and trends relevant to LAPL and LFLA funding projects.
  • Cultivate and build relationships with LFLA and LAPL staff at all levels, individual donors, institutional grant officers, board members, partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Help monitor, analyze, and assess program performance with the department’s Grants Manager.
  • Establish personal goals, objectives, and fundraising strategies and periodically assess progress with the Senior Director and Chief Development Officer.
  • Participate in LFLA and LAPL events and professional development activities, as needed.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in direct grant writing and nonprofit fund development
  • Success in implementing cultivation strategies to secure grants and corporate sponsorships
  • Ability to initiate and build relationships with prospective corporate supporters including CSR staff and philanthropy program officers
  • Talent for writing coherent, concise, and compelling fundraising appeals
  • Strong organization and project management skills, including the ability to work independently and collaboratively on multiple projects concurrently
  • Impeccable attention to detail and reliability in meeting deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and a track record of building meaningful relationships with both external and internal stakeholders
  • Self-motivation and a drive to meet and exceed professional goals
  • Demonstrated capacity for strategic thinking and creative problem-solving
  • Understanding of Los Angeles’s cultural landscape and social service needs is a plus
  • Passion for the public library’s role in today’s world
  • Experience working with multi-cultural organizations and communities is a plus

COVID-19 Workplace Safety Requirements 

  • LFLA requires all employees to receive COVID-19 vaccinations as determined unless reasonable accommodations are approved. This position is currently hybrid with remote and in office activities.
  • Occasional requirements include interacting with employees, donors, vendors, and others who may or may not be vaccinated or recently tested. You will be required to wear personal protection equipment (PPE) required by the LA County Department of Public Health protocols and the LFLA.
