Barren River Area Child Advocacy Center, located in Bowling Green, KY, provides a safe, child-friendly location where children who have experienced sexual abuse or assault can receive services and begin their journey towards healing and justice. Our mission is possible only through the collaboration of the various professionals that must intervene when sexual abuse and/or exploitation of a child is disclosed or suspected.

Position Title: Medical Unit Coordinator

Basic Functions:

Serve as liaison with BRACAC staff, volunteers, and clients to ensure timely flow of medical services. Assist management in the development and maintenance of medical records and policies. Oversee medical outreach services for all ten service counties. Provide general support and assistance daily for the mission of the BRACAC.

Position Responsibilities:

Clinical

 Review, triage, and schedule medical referrals.

 Lead multidisciplinary team in medical briefing.

 Prepare exam room and equipment (including colposcope) before/after each exam.

 Prepare the child for exam by meeting with child and caregiver(s) to answer questions, complete necessary paperwork, and assist the examining provider in obtaining a medical history.

 Provide support to providers with exams.

 Assist provider in the collection of medical photographs using colposcope.

 Provide after-hours on-call assistance (when able) with the provision of acute services to victims of child sexual abuse, when needed.

 Assist provider in the collection of forensic evidence, if applicable.

 Deliver/coordinate processing of specimens to/from appropriate laboratory.

 Assist in coordination of follow-up care.

 Interface with and assist members of the multidisciplinary team in support of their visit and services to clients at the center.

 Ensure timely completion and dissemination of medical records.

 Provide specialized consultation to multidisciplinary team professionals.

Outreach

 Cultivate relationships with area hospitals for awareness and continuity of care.

 Provide outreach services as appropriate to various medical venues in the BRADD region.

 Recruit volunteer providers for medical services.

Administrative

 Assist with preparation of billing/reimbursement documentation for provider.

 Inventory and assist with maintenance of medical unit supplies and equipment.

 Assist management in the preparation and maintenance of annual budget for medical unit.

 Prepare, maintain, and present statistical reports for medical unit activities.

 Assist management in the development and maintenance of written protocols for all medical unit policies and procedures.

 Prepare and maintain medical staff schedules.

 Coordinate and provide support and preparation for court appearances by medical staff.

 Prepare and coordinate peer reviews for medical staff.

General

 Represent BRACAC in Center-related activities, when needed.

 Attend local, state, and/or national conferences and training opportunities in support of the provision of services at the BRACAC, as required by national standards.

 Provide support to ongoing training workshops for BRACAC volunteers, interns, and other guests.

 Testify in court actions as they pertain to BRACAC clients, when required.

 Assist and support the day-to-day mission of the BRACAC whenever necessary (i.e., monitor reception area, answer telephone, supervise children and family members, etc.)

 Attend and participate in staff meetings and other organizational activities, when appropriate.

 Other duties, as assigned by Executive Director.

Qualifications:

 Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, Registered Nurse (RN) license required

 Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) certification preferred but not required

 Two years’ experience in a medical setting, preferably pediatric in nature

 Criminal background check, current TB skin test, and Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider required

Hours: 20 hours/week

Rate of Pay: $30/hour

Job Types: Part-time, Contract

Pay: $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10 – 20 per week
