The Nevada Automotive Test Center (NATC) is currently seeking talented candidates for an Engineering Technician r at our Silver Springs, NV location. At NATC, our Engineering Technicians supports a team of engineers who design, manufacture, and test innovative automotive mobility solutions.

Founded in 1957, the Nevada Automotive Test Center (NATC) is a privately owned, independent test, evaluation, design and engineering facility offering development and testing to customers worldwide. NATC's location in the great basin of Nevada allows our team to access terrain that can represent 85% of the world within a 150 mile radius, providing an excellent test bed for off-road mobility. NATC's operational area includes 1,200 sq. miles of natural terrain, that when coupled with 6,200 acres of privately owned test courses, create an unparalleled testing area available to our engineers to innovate and solve our customer's problems.

Position Summary:

Assist automotive engineers in the design, development, fabrication, and testing of ground vehicles and related equipment. Apply, create, and maintain technical documentation in support of vehicle engineering and test projects. Develop and use 3D CAD models, drawings, work orders, specifications and sketches to support the fabrication, repair and/or installation of desired product or part. Support development of new concept designs and associated engineering analysis. Assist with automotive testing, including test plan development, instrumentation, test conduct, data review/analysis, and creation of final reports and other technical documents.

Essential Functions:

  1. Ensures maintenance, fabrication, assembly, wiring and electrical troubleshooting actions are performed in accordance with test directives or engineering design.
  2. Test drive vehicles in support of engineering tests or for the purpose of systems diagnosis and assessing vehicle performance.
  3. Must be able to interpret technical manuals, design specifications, drawings, etc.
  4. Assist engineers in creating automotive design concepts, drawings, parts lists, and other technical documentation. Computer Aided Design (CAD) and schematic capture drawing experience is a plus.
  5. Develop repairs and modifications of vehicles and equipment in accordance with test directives or engineering instructions.
  6. Coordinate with test, engineering, and maintenance personnel to ensure required actions are being performed on schedule and records of same are maintained accordingly.
  7. Communicate effectively with co-workers, customers, and suppliers.
  8. Work with engineering, technicians, management, and customers in recommending design enhancements and productivity improvements.
  9. Supervise and conduct the inspection and measurement of vehicles and components in accordance with test directives or engineering instruction.
  10. Operate photo and video equipment and instrumentation in support of automotive tests.
  11. Acquire, download, review, and process data from component, subsystem, or full vehicle tests
  12. Create technical documentation of fabrication, vehicle assembly, or test activities.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Marginal Functions:

  1. Perform tests in the field in extreme temperature and/or environmental conditions.
  2. Identifies when customer requirements or drawings are not suitable to standard manufacturing practices and suggests a reasonable solution to achieve the desired outcome.
  3. Operate company vehicles in support of test and engineering operations.
  4. Assist maintenance and fabrication shops with maintenance, modification, and payloading of vehicles.

Pay: $25 - $35

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High school graduate or equivalent minimum.
  2. Able to process and interpret test data, including graphical presentation of results.
  3. Ability to interpret mechanical/electrical drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, and fabrication/assembly callout requirements.
  4. Knowledge of harness/cable fabrication methods to include proper crimping of terminals and wire splices.
  5. Working knowledge of PCB and harness wire soldering to include through whole, surface mount, and industry standard wire splices.
  6. Able to work in excess of 40 hours per week with varied work shifts.
  7. Must possess a current Driver's License with ability to obtain Nevada Driver's License.
  8. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  9. Must be a detail-oriented person.
  10. Proficient in the use of the MS Office Suite.
  11. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, expressing ideas clearly and actively listening to instructions and ideas of others.
  12. Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  13. Must be professional and personable and able to relate well with employees at all levels.
  14. Must have excellent organization and time management skills.
  15. Must be flexible and able to handle multiple priorities, with the ability to adjust to high pressure and rapidly changing business conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. High voltage and low voltage electric vehicle training.
  2. High voltage harness/cable fabrication and testing experience.
  3. Background in automotive repair and modification.
  4. Working knowledge of common shop machines, equipment, and hand tools.
  5. General knowledge of electrical/electronic fabrication equipment, voltage/current/power measurement equipment, and network interface equipment.
  6. Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) and drawing analysis tools
