BARTENDER

The Bartender, like the Server, is there to attend to the needs of the guest. Not only must do they know the food menu, but they are also knowledgeable about the cocktail menu and must prepare drink orders efficiently. Their duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Developing a rotating cocktail menu with occasional drink specials.
  • Verify identification and age requirements of customers.
  • Mix traditional and creative cocktails.
  • Process payment from customers.
  • Clean glasses and bar utensils.
  • Make suggestions based on customer tastes and preferences.
  • Record and balance cash receipts and prepare cash deposits.
  • Open and maintain tabs throughout their shift.
  • Build a rapport with regular customers to create a positive atmosphere.

The Bartender should:

  • Have a friendly personality.
  • Be able to engage multiple guests at the same time ensuring attentive service to each guest without isolating another guest’s experience.
  • Be knowledgeable about common cocktails as well as cocktails specific to Café Hope.
  • Have good communication skills and be respectful of our guests as well as their fellow coworkers.
  • Physical ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Maintain a clean workspace and make sure the bar top remains clean for the guests.
  • Be dressed in accordance with the dress code as stated in the Employee Handbook.
  • Be punctual and a team player.
  • Be knowledgeable about the bar food menu as it is separate from the restaurant’s main food menu.

Position Summary:

The Bar Manager will be responsible for overseeing daily operations of the bar including but not limited to guest satisfaction, management of bar team, cocktail batching and production. The manager will work to ensure that Cafe Hope standards of service are met and create memorable experiences in our bar spaces. The manager will be responsible for hiring, training, and overseeing development of bar team, as well as provide training for all staff on the beverage program(s). They should be outgoing and engaging with customers to promote repeat business and to create an inviting space for newcomers.

Core Responsibilities:

Operations

  • Supervise operation of the Cafe Hope bar to maximize profitability, minimize legal liability, and conform to alcoholic beverage regulations.
  • Contribute to R&D for menu development and execute seasonal beverage updates for multiple outlets
  • Oversee creation of custom bar menus for Banquets as well as set up and execution
  • Work with General Manager to plan any liquor activations within the spaces.
  • Coordinate with the General Manager on tools or items needed for the bar/floor to operate day to day.
  • Investigate and resolve complaints concerning beverage/food quality or service.
  • Enforce sanitary practices for food handling, general cleanliness, and maintenance for department.
  • Ensure all fresh juices and products are being stored properly, labeled, and FIFO procedures are being followed.
  • Perform other general floor management duties as assigned.
  • Follow and ensure compliance of all Cafe Hope policies and standard operating procedures as outlined in Employee Handbook.

Administrative and Financial

  • Oversee and manage labor vs sales for all staff.
  • Work to continuously improve cost control measures relating to the beverage program by monitoring purchasing procedures, ensuring accurate inventory when placing orders and managing deadstock items already in house and review sales of menu items each week.
  • Participate in beverage inventory each month and ensure accurate counting and data entry.
  • Coordinate monthly beverage education and training with the General Manager.
  • Develop Beverage/Food training for staff on menu items, new product and refreshing knowledge.
  • Oversee bartender schedule including hiring, training, team meetings and requests off to make sure all operations are appropriately staffed for volume of business.
  • Maintain real time tracking of beverage cost via invoice and sales entry into Beverage Trackers

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $8.00 - $10.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
