We have an immediate need for a Billing Specialist

Work from the Southwest Fort Wayne Campus.

Monday through Friday, daytime hours.

POSITION TITLE: BILLING & AUTHORIZATION SPECIALIST

FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT

REPORTS TO: BILLING MANAGER

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

Perform precertification and tracking for all insurances for patients and submit clinical information to insurance companies in an accurate and timely manner. Perform follow-up calls and requests for more visits or time as needed. Verify appropriate documentation exists in Stillwater Hospice clinical records for claim processing for reimbursement. Perform billing activities and ensure accurate information is processed for claims.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to use a personal computer and fax machine.
  • Knowledge of Excel, Word, and the Internet.
  • Must be detail-oriented with the ability to track and organize insurance files.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality of patient information.
  • Must display excellent organizational skills.
  • Must have a pleasant and/or compassionate personality with good communication skills.
  • A high school diploma with a minimum of 2 years in the healthcare field and previous insurance precertification and/or billing is required.
  • You must have an Indiana motor vehicle operator’s license and access to an automobile with current insurance coverage.
  • Must be able to safely perform the job's essential functions without posing a direct threat to the health and /or safety of self or others in the workplace.
  • Must have experience in working with insurance companies to obtain health benefits
  • Information, track visits, and time frames, and request more visits or time as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepares and maintains insurance files for patients.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, insurance, and other payor guidelines, staying current on changes in regulations.
  • Keep track of patients between programs and their payor source on a daily basis.
  • Gather insurance information not previously obtained by direct care staff or intake and referral personnel.
  • Communicate with patients regarding questions about their insurance benefits.
  • Communicate with payor sources to get precertification for all hospice and home health patients with commercial insurance.
  • Communicate with QI nurses for utilization review needs and submit appeal requests for commercial insurance patients.
  • Verify Insurance eligibility and benefit coverage upon referral for all patients referred to Stillwater Hospice.
  • Completion of patient Financial Assessments as needed.
  • Adheres to all Stillwater Hospice policies.
  • Any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
  • Adheres to Stillwater Hospice privacy practices as described in the Notice of Privacy Practices.
  • Participates in agency committees or task forces when requested.

The published compensation range for this position reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full-time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The base pay may be higher or lower based on demonstrated job-related experience.
