Layout Technician

Role Overview: As a Construction Layout Technician, your primary responsibility is to utilize a total station to accurately mark construction sites according to design drawings, shop drawings, and project specifications. You will work closely with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Engineers, and Surveyors to ensure precise layout and alignment of cleanroom elements. Coordinate with other trades and their respective elements (i.e., architectural, structural, mechanical, and plumbing).

Key Responsibilities:

1. Total Station Operation: Operate total station equipment to measure distances, angles, and elevations with high accuracy. Electronic data collectors and surveying software are used to record and process field data.

2. Site Layout: Translate design plans and engineering drawings into physical markings on the construction site. Set benchmarks, layout points, and control lines to guide the construction of walls, ceilings, structural supports, and other cleanroom elements.

3. Quality Control: Conduct regular checks to verify the accuracy and consistency of layout markings. Coordinate with Construction Managers and Engineers to address discrepancies and ensure compliance with project requirements.

4. Coordination with Construction Team: Collaborate closely with Construction Supervisors, Foremen, and Subcontractors to communicate layout instructions and resolve any issues that may arise during construction.

5. Coordination with Design Team: Collaborate closely with Design Leads and Project Engineers to communicate design changes/field changes that may arise throughout construction.

6. As-Built Documentation: Assist in the documentation of as-built conditions by conducting field surveys and updating layout drawings accordingly. Provide accurate data for the preparation of record drawings and final project documentation.

7. Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and procedures while working on construction sites. Maintain awareness of site hazards and take necessary precautions to ensure personal safety and the safety of others.

· Problem-solving skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve layout discrepancies, interpret complex design requirements, and make adjustments as needed to ensure accurate construction alignment and placement. Technicians must troubleshoot technology, software, and hardware issues encountered while operating surveying equipment. This involves diagnosing problems with instruments or software, identifying potential solutions, and implementing corrective measures to ensure uninterrupted surveying operations.

· Design Experience: Having a grasp of design principles and concepts. Familiarity with reading architectural, structural, and MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) drawings. Proficiency in using computer-aided design (CAD) software such as Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks.
