Ambulance Billing and Compliance Manager

The Operations team is responsible for Emergency and Non-Emergency calls throughout East and South Bay counties of Northern California with deployment centers in Alameda, Santa Clara and Contra Costa counties. Westmed is looking for a motivated and knowledgeable EMS billing coder and/or dispatcher with 2-5 years of experience in the EMS field. The ideal candidate is an expert in EMS medical billing and clinical charting compliance.

This Communications Center based position will alongside dispatchers, performing a variety of specialized duties related to the ambulance billing revenue cycle, including but not limited to monitoring and oversight of the company’s electronic tablets, troubleshooting minor software and hardware issues with field crews, and overseeing the training of all EMTs in the process of electronic charting.

Area of Responsibility:

  • Audit and reconcile clinical charting discrepancies to minimize the reimbursement timeline.
  • Interface with information technology staff to troubleshoot electronic tablet and charting software issues in real time.
  • Responsible for working inventory of electronic tablets including troubleshooting software issues, investigating tablet malfunctions and field damage, and managing the tablet replacement process.
  • Conduct Quality Assurance (QA) audits of for field crews’ charting in compliance with Federal, State, and County regulations.
  • Coordinate with Data Analysts to refine Key Performance Indicators related to charting compliance to enhance the monitoring and improvement of clinical charting and billing.
  • Ability to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency situations.
  • Make and apply decisions in accordance with laws, regulations, and company policy
  • Interpret and apply rules, regulations, and policy to clinical charts
  • Articulate complex billing issues written and verbally
  • Aide Communications Center staff during the call intake process to ensure the necessary information and authorizations are received for the best possible reimbursement.
  • Serve as a backup dispatcher/call taker during times of low staffing, high volume, and vacation coverage as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Federal and State regulations that govern healthcare
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of the Zoll Rescue Net suite of ambulance and billing software and/or a minimum of 2 to 5 years of ambulance dispatching and/or billing coding and auditing in an ambulance or EMS environment.
  • Knowledge of private and governmental insurance programs, including The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)
  • Highly flexible in shifting job priorities as directed by senior management.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 to 5 years of experience in an ambulance or EMS medical billing environment conducting data analysis, as well as the coding and reconciling complex claims. The ideal candidate has a demonstrated ability to find resolutions for complex billing issues.

and/or

  • Minimum of 2 to 5 years of call taking/dispatch experience in a software based ambulance dispatch environment. The ideal candidate is familiar with the items and the quality of the contents required for successful billing.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
