Disability Services at the University of South Dakota has an immediate opening for a 12-month Counselor / Accommodations Coordinator.

Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Disability Services, the successful candidate will be energetic, able to work with a team, and exhibit a strong commitment to increasing students’ self-advocacy and self-reliance in order to assist them in achieving their full potential both personally and academically.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities :

• Ensure students with disabilities, who are registered with Disability Services, receive reasonable and appropriate accommodations in order to ensure full and equal access to the programs and services of the University of South Dakota.
• Provide mental health counseling as well as prevention programming to students.

Qualifications :

• A graduate degree in counseling, social work, psychology or related field is required for this position. Must be licensed or have the ability to be licensed as a mental health provider in the state of South Dakota.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience working in the counseling field. Related experience in a higher education context is preferred.

A combination of education and experience may be considered.

• Demonstrated sensitivity, respect, and understanding for college students from diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.
• Knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices associated with counseling college students and the stress they experience in relation to development and identity.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Experience public speaking, facilitating events, and conducting presentations.
• Demonstrated ability to build collaborative, productive, and respectful relationships with students, faculty, administrators, and community organizations.
