Context of the role
Based in San Francisco (USA) and reporting to the Global Compliance Director, this role is supporting the Compliance function for Thunes in America, both on the acquiring and payout businesses relying on Thunes' payment institution licence.
This role is expected to partner with the Global Compliance function (incl. the Head of AML, the Global Compliance Director, the Head of Regulatory Compliance, ...) and other transversal teams (Legal, Account Management; Business Development, Finance, Product...) based across the World.

Key Responsibilities

• Manages a team of one BSA/AML Compliance officer and one Licensing & Regulatory Compliance Officer based in the USA
• Builds and develop Compliance Programs for the US market including the creation of AML/CTF, Sanctions, and Anti-corruption/bribery programs policies in coordination with the global company policies
• Responsible for implementing procedures to ensure compliance initiatives throughout the US are robust, effective, efficient & measurable
• Serves as BSA reporting officer - managing and administrating visits from independent state and federal auditors. Coordinating and implementing responses to audits etc
• Secure states Money Services Business licenses in line with the business strategy
• Serves as regulatory liaison with regulators as well as managing compliance relationships of Thunes US banking partners
• Being an advisor on international financial sanctions & embargoes regimes, and namely those issues by the American authorities
• Assesses risks: AML/CTF, ABC, country, customer, product regulatory, and own the risk assessment of these as well as the control plan and testings
• Is responsible for permanent control before competent authorities
• Works as a business partner to the commercial and leadership team to develop compliance programs that support the business expansion in the US
• Ensures strong regulatory watch to anticipate any change of the regulations
• Spend time working alongside the operational teams in London and Singapore to reflect the US regulatory specificities in the Global Compliance Program

What we are looking for

• Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline (such as Business, Law, Finance, etc.) and/or a professional compliance qualification from an internationally recognized body (e.g., ICA, ACAMS, etc.).
• 10-15 years of experience in the financial/payment sector, with a strong focus on AML and regulatory compliance (AML/TF, ABC, US sanction regimes).
• Recent experience in a leadership role with ownership of a US Compliance Program.
• Previous successful acquisition of money services business (MSB) licences in at least one US state.
• Demonstrated experience in dealing with government agencies/regulators overseeing payments and/or other financial transactions.
• Ability to support the development of new financial products and services.
• Experience working in an international and diverse environment.
• High level of autonomy and proactivity.
• Ability to thrive under pressure, manage different priorities, and meet tight deadlines.
• Collaborative work approach.
