Youth Peer Specialist (YPS) is a person in recovery from a substance use or mental health disorder who provides one on one peer support services, serves as a peer advocate and provides individuals and/or families with information and linkage to additional services to meet the needs of the individual and/or family. YPS provides support to youth and young adults in a variety of settings. YPS performs a wide range of tasks to support individuals and/or families in living their own lives and directing their own recovery and wellness process. The YPS will model competency in recovery and wellness.

Key Responsibilities

• Provides emotional support to the participant and/or member no matter where the person is on their recovery journey.
• Educates the participant and/or member in areas that support recovery and wellness.
• Provides needed linkage to services and/or supports for recovery and wellness.
• Documents all interactions and work done with the participant and/or member.
• Utilizes the recovery capital scale to assess the strengths of the participant (s) and develop a wellness plan.
• Effectively communicate, listen and understand the problems, concerns and barriers faced by the participants and/or members.
• Utilize and teach problem solving techniques to participants and or families.
• Maintain a working knowledge of current trends and developments in the area of recovery by reading books, journal articles, attending trainings and relevant materials.
• Understand and utilize specific interventions necessary to support participants and/or families in meeting their recovery and wellness goals.
• Encourages multiple pathways to recovery to the participant and/or member.
• Understands and abides by the recovery-oriented principles.
• Encourage the participant to participate in the Federation of Families, Youth MOVE, Wellness Center workshops and/or support groups.

• Encourage the participant to engage in advocacy efforts and community meetings.

Must have a high school diploma or GED.

Must be able to pass a level 2 clearance, have transportation and a valid Florida driver’s license.

Job Type: Full-time
