Manager, Events Manager

*This is a remote or hybrid position. Applicants must live within a 100-mile radius of our home office in Chicago, IL.

Your Purpose: 

The Marketing Manager, reporting to the Director of Marketing, plays a key role in the Marketing & Communications department contributing to strategic planning, and implementation of various marketing campaigns for assigned events to increase awareness, engage target audiences, and drive paid registrations. They will be the lead contact for the Marketing & Communications department for coordinating and executing Society of Actuaries (SOA) in-person and virtual events.

What You’ll Do: 

  • Own the marketing creative, strategy, and execution of events by taking a hands-on role in marketing/promotions through all available channels (website, email, social media, paid ads, etc.) achieving desired results (attendance/revenue/engagement, etc.) while supervising staff and delegating when needed. 
  • Assist the Director of Marketing in the management of various marketing initiatives and in the development of new marketing plans based on review of market research, competitive analysis, trends, and previous results. Development recommendations for target markets, tactics, and resources for the effective implementation of plans. 
  • Support the development and management of SOA’s overall brand strategy and portfolio for all SOA events. 
  • Provide content and design direction for the development of impactful marketing communication elements by partnering with Communications and Creative Services teams. Be responsible for the shipping, set up, and tear down of the SOA marketing materials and any brand elements during in-person and virtual events. 
  • Partner with the Digital Marketing team within Marketing to utilize and optimize email, social media, and paid media campaigns to effectively drive paid registrations. Collaborate on segmentation and testing strategies, campaign automation, and analysis of results for continuous improvements.
  • Support the International Marketing Manager (peer) in their geographic and event expansion plans; liaison to internationally based, marketing-focused staff.
  • In collaboration with other departments, manage paid sponsorships for the organization identifying and evaluating opportunities and renewals based on qualitative and quantitative indicators and metrics. 
  • In collaboration with the Marketing Specialist, lead and execute marketing efforts for sponsorship sales, preparing strategies and communications including, email, brochures, web, and ads to achieve sales goals for sponsorships of SOA’s events and meetings.
  • Conduct postmortems on key initiatives and campaigns from each event and apply learnings to future events. Identify and share best practices within the Marketing team and across departments.
  • Contribute to the Market Research Department’s studies to help guide marketing decision-making and planning. 
  • Involvement in budget reviews and recommendations as it pertains to SOA events.
  • Manage, train, coach, and conduct performance reviews of direct reports. The position currently supervises two Sr./Marketing Specialists.
  • Recommend new and innovative marketing approaches to take advantage of cutting-edge technologies and to ensure fresh thinking in marketing strategies.

What You’ll Need:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • Requires five (5) to seven (7) years direct experience in program/product/event marketing. 
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey key messages and edit copy to ensure resonance with various audiences. 
  • Requires strong project management and relationship-building skills
  • Requires 3 years supervisory/manager of people experience.
  • Requires intermediate-to-expert level knowledge of Microsoft Office suite software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and intermediate-level knowledge of AP Style.
  • Ability to travel a minimum of 5-10%
