Location: Glenwood Springs, Colorado
Pay Range: Hiring/Starting pay range is $25.50- $28.35/hourly, based on experience.

Position Summary
The Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Technician I, will serve as an initial point of contact for diagnosing equipment failures, and assist in maintaining, installing, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment associated with the following systems:
  • ITS/AVL equipment, including Wi-Fi and Cell network modems, antennas, and cabling.
  • Ticket vending machines
  • Bus stop information signs
  • Mobile and stationary video systems, including Network Video Recorders (NVRs), IP cameras, Ethernet switches, and cabling.
  • Fareboxes
  • 2-way radios
  • Vehicle destination head signs
  • Traditional Information Technology (IT) equipment, i.e. PCs, laptops, printers, etc.
  • Other equipment as required or introduced into RFTA's fleet and facilities.
This is an entry-level position with opportunities to advance to ITS Technician II.
Essential Job Duties
  • Frequently work with other ITS staff while performing daily duties but expected to work unsupervised on specific tasks or projects as assigned.
  • Coordinate daily duties with the ITS Supervisor(s) and the IT Hardware Manager.
  • Assist with maintaining ITS equipment according to an established preventive maintenance program.
  • Assist with the inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and replacement of ITS equipment as directed.
  • Assist with the installation and maintenance of ITS equipment to ensure network connectivity and proper vehicle location tracking.
  • Assist with installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and reporting radio system issues and peripheral devices.
  • Assist with repairing peripheral devices such as GPS equipment and electronic signage.
  • Assist with maintaining the inventory of parts needed for the proper operation of equipment.
  • Assist with planning, developing, and documenting detailed configuration of electronic equipment as it is installed.
  • Assist with downloading videos from buses and facility cameras upon request by RFTA staff and external agencies.
  • Assist the IT Helpdesk staff with installing, troubleshooting, and repairing traditional IT equipment including PCs, laptops, printers, and peripheral devices.
  • Work with end-users to help with their general IT issues in a personal and patient manner.
  • Make recommendations to improve existing systems and procurement processes.
  • Work in cooperation with other departments and respond to their IT and ITS-related requests.
  • Minimal travel may be required for off-site inspections, and other requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of the principles of electricity, electronics, computers, Windows, and networking.
  • Ability to work well under pressure while independently handling multiple tasks, demands, and priorities.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Solid ability to maintain positive, effective working relationships while meeting and exceeding the information technology needs and priorities of the organization.
  • Solid interpersonal skills with the ability to interact, communicate, collaborate, and work well with individuals and groups.
  • Ability to maintain and repair fareboxes, ticket vending machines, computers, radios, electronic signage, video systems, and related equipment.
  • Ability to use mechanic's tools.
  • Ability to file detailed reports.
  • Ability to learn various software programs.
Education
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Any combination of education and experience, which would provide the applicant with the skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform this job.
  • CompTIA A certification or equivalent desired.
Experience
  • Experience with bus mechanics and technology is helpful.
  • Experience with bus schematics, mechanics, and technology is helpful but not required.
  • Experience with maintenance techniques and operations is helpful but not required.
  • Experience working in a cooperative environment.
Working Conditions
  • Duties typically performed in the maintenance garage, on-board buses, assigned office space, or in the field.
  • This position will require work outdoors.
  • Required to lift up to ninety (90) pounds and frequently lift and push objects that weigh forty (40) pounds.
  • Physical ability required to be mobile, bend, stoop, twist, squat, kneel, stand, reach, carry, and climb ladders.

The Roaring Fork Transportation Authority has been in operation since 1983, and functions as a Regional Transportation Authority.
