DIRECTOR OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS AND DEVELOPMENT

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive strategies to enhance PHP’s fundraising, external relations, public image, and stakeholder engagement. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker, skilled communicator, and relationship-builder with a passion for driving positive change. Provide leadership in expanding the breadth and effectiveness of PHP’s resource development activities. Assure availability of funds necessary to provide quality service programs as well as new programs, and to reduce PHP’s dependency on public agency funds. Plan, coordinate, and implement fundraising activities and provide marketing and public awareness for agency events. PHP currently has a number of staff doing marketing or outreach in different languages. This new role at PHP consolidates the marketing efforts under the Development of External Affairs and Development. Work in partnership with allied agencies to increase funding and opportunities to increase services to children with special needs and their families. Reports to Chief Development Officer while serving as member of PHP executive leadership team.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Development (50%)

Strategy, Leadership and Planning: Work with the Chief Development Officer to develop an annual fundraising strategy that is ambitious and achievable. Create an annual fundraising plan with metrics and areas of responsibility that include activities for the Executive Director, Board, general staff, and each member of the development team.

Individual Donor Cultivation and Communications: Manage a portfolio of individual donors with a separate communication and cultivation plan for each donor segment. Create opportunities for donors to “experience” the mission of PHP. Create or supervise the creation of

all donor communications including annual campaign materials, social media posts and fund development materials.

Special Events: Determine strategic direction of the donor engagement events including the annual gala fundraising event, ensuring flawless execution supported by volunteers and staff or contract event planner.

External Affairs (50%)
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including donors, community partners, government agencies, and other nonprofit organizations.

Develop and implement public relations strategies to enhance the organization's visibility, reputation, and brand awareness.

Develop and execute on culturally competent communications & outreach plans for the
Spanish and Vietnamese speaking communities

Determine the best way to reach marketing goals with limited resources, including advertising budget allocations.

Align marketing work with the agency-wide strategic plan.

Maintain existing and establish new relationships with partner agencies, both those serving majority Spanish-speakers and those that serve other language communities, for the purpose of collaboration.

Responsible for making sure analytics are collected for marketing/communication/website/social media outside of PHP’s Salesforce CRM system; analyze data and make recommendations on how to improve communications.

Monitor social media posts for key partner agencies; understand where greatest marketing opportunities are in the community

Supervisory Responsibilities: Lead and manage your team: Marketing Manager, Vietnamese
Outreach Specialist and dotted line to Spanish Outreach Specialist. Lead by example with professionalism, kindness, and a fierce drive to advance PHP’s mission.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
1. A passion for families with children with special needs.

2. Minimum of 5 years working in nonprofit development or corporate sales, with increasing levels of responsibility and proven track record of success.

3. Compelling and inspirational communication skills: interpersonal, oral and written.
4. Ability to build relationships and engage with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
5. Demonstrated cultural competency in serving low income, underserved areas in Santa

Clara County
6. Demonstrated success in securing four and five figure gifts through acquiring, developing and retaining donor or client relationships resulting in significant support for an organization.

7. Ability to think strategically about special events and their PR and fundraising value.
8. Ability to lead, mentor, and manage a team of marketing professionals. Experience in setting clear goals, performance metrics, and tracking progress. Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities.

9. Represent PHP at high profile events and develop/maintain relationships with other community organizations.

10. Competent at using Microsoft Office and fundraising database products; Salesforce experience a plus.

11. Expertise in developing comprehensive marketing and outreach strategies that align with organizational goals. Proven experience in planning, executing, and evaluating marketing campaigns across various channels (digital, social media, traditional, etc.).
Knowledge of SEO, SEM, content marketing, and social media best practices.

12. Understanding of brand identity and the ability to ensure consistency across marketing materials and campaigns.

13. Perform other duties as required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This job requires extended periods of sitting/standing at a desk while working on a computer.
Candidates should be able to use a computer, keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment comfortably and efficiently.
Visual Requirements: This position requires the candidate to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading, review of marketing materials and website.
Occasional Mobility: While the job is primarily sedentary, candidates should be capable of occasional movement within the office environment for access to others, supplies or equipment.
Verbal Communication: This position requires frequent communication, both in person and over the phone or via video conferencing. Requires the ability to clearly and effectively communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
Travel: Must be able to travel as needed.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This is not a 100% remote position; in-person interaction with the PHP team, community agencies, and/or attendance at in-person trainings and community events is required. Required to be on camera for meetings which may be recorded. Maintaining a meaningfully significant in-office presence at PHP’s main office in San Jose will be expected and work from home hours will be determined by the supervisor based on organizational needs. Ability to work some weekends and evenings is required. Full time role. Salary range is $94,000-$104,000/year.
