Position Summary:

We're looking for an experienced and talented individual to be the Safety & Quality Assurance Manager. In this role, you will provide leadership for the plant by establishing a safety & quality strategy, developing/strengthening our internal safety & quality culture, and driving continuous improvement of existing QA/Safety programs to meet Morris National standards. This position works closely with operations, maintenance, R&D, plant leadership and upper management in achieving goals, objectives and manages the facility team members, Quality Management system and programs, sanitation, and product specifications.

Responsibilities Include but not limited to:

  • Monitor the efficacy of the safety & quality system via internal audits/document reviews and organizes/publishes data and reports on facility/plant performance.
  • Interface with regulatory, third-party audit certification bodies and keeps documentation of changes/preventive controls required to meet the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).
  • Responsible for ensuring the facility maintains SQF certification (achieving scores necessary to meet customer requirements) and meets all regulatory requirements.
  • Provide the necessary safety and quality training, tools, and techniques when changes are made to programs and procedures, when refresher training is identified as a corrective action and at minimum annually to enable others to effectively achieve QA/Safety goals/objectives and keep employees safe while delivering wholesome, quality products that are safe for consumption.
  • Respond to all near miss findings and customer/consumer complaints in a timely manner by conducting root cause analysis and implementing/documenting appropriate corrective/preventive actions.
  • Manage product holds and product dispositions.
  • Participate/manage all management meeting and safety meetings with other Managers.
  • Support sales and regulatory compliance teams by updating product specifications and quality parameters into a product management system.
  • Oversee budget of both Safety & Quality supplies stocked and ordered.

Requirements - Education/Skills/Knowledge:

  • Assocaites degree required or B.S. in Food Science, Food Safety & Defense, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 or more years’ experience in Safety & Quality Management in the food industry.
  • Excellent report writing skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills (extensive experience with root cause analysis and safety programs).
  • Excellent knowledge of food manufacturing processes, safety & quality programs, food sanitation, and process validations/verifications.
  • Solid understanding of food safety and manufacturing of RTE foods.
  • Experience using a full range of statistical and analytical tools and fundamentals related to safety and quality.
  • Preferred candidates have a thorough understanding of risk assessments, water activity and microbiology testing.
  • Extensive experience in SQF, HACCP, OSHA, FDA, city permits and prerequisite programs.
  • Must be HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) and SQF and/or PCQI certified.
  • Must be a recognized as an SQF practitioner.
