Project: Discovering novel immunotherapy targets for cancer

Job Description

The Sharpe Lab at Harvard Medical School has created the CHIME (CHimeric IMmune Editing) system for using CRISPR-based in vivo screening to discover novel cancer immunotherapy targets. This project is performed by a multidisciplinary team of research scientists and research associates who conduct in vivoscreens in preclinical murine cancer models, validation/mechanism studies, and technology development centered on in vivo perturbation of immune cells. The overall aim of this project to improve our understanding of mechanisms of T-cell mediated tumor immunity.

We seek a motivated, experienced, and creative immunologist to join our team as a Research Scientist and lead a self-directed project that interfaces with these aims. The candidate will pursue his/her own project within the group supervising existing research associates working on this project. The candidate will also be responsible for leading manuscript writing on their projects. Candidates must have a strong background in immunology and cancer biology research, with experience in animal models required. The ideal candidate will also possess superior experimental planning, organizational, and execution skills; an open mind; the ability to mentor and manage research associates; a strong desire to collaborate and develop new technologies; and a proven ability to efficiently and effectively solve problems.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

· Develop, lead, and execute research projects independently

· Lead manuscript writing on their project

· Serve as the primary mentor of research associates working on their project

· Stay up-to-date on literature and think creatively and critically about the project

· Contribute to the lab through teamwork and discussion

· Attend high-level meetings and report progress to funding partners through presentations and progress reports

· Present research internally at Harvard and externally at scientific meetings

Minimum Qualifications

PhD in relevant field (immunology, cancer biology, or similar)

Extensive experience with tumor immunology preclinical models

Demonstrated scientific contributions to the field with at least 1 first-author paper
