The Director IT Operations is responsible for the strategic and tactical information technology direction of the company in a small IT department. Scope of responsibility includes configuration, operation, and performance of the company's voice and data communications; help desk responsibilities; and the support of the company's enterprise software and data. Leads new infrastructure and application initiatives that are developed, purchased, or outsourced to meet the evolving business needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead both strategic development and tactical operations of the IT function with a hands-on approach.
  • Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of all IT systems, including servers, PCs, operating systems, telephones, software applications, and peripherals.
  • Provide expertise and support during systems upgrades, installations, conversions and file maintenance; manage system implementations (including for an upcoming Finance ERP system).
  • Oversee systems development and enhancement and the integration of new systems with existing systems.
  • Continually assess the information technology needs of the organization and users to ensure appropriate resources and technology are available.
  • Ensure the development and implementation of a technology infrastructure strategy that is secure, scalable, reliable, and functional.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and best practices for IT staff and to end-users.
  • Leads in the evaluation and selection of vendors for services relating to voice, internet, conferencing, wireless access, and website hosting services.
  • Keep current with the latest technology solutions and determine what new technology will meet business and system requirements.
  • Develop and implement all IT policies and procedures, including those for architecture, cyber security, disaster recovery, standards, purchasing, and service provision.
  • Manage servers and applications that either directly or indirectly impact GxP or SOX requirements. This includes but is not limited to applications such as SLIM, QAD, and CENTRON.
  • Develop and maintain IT operations processes and documentation (SOPs, WIs, etc.).
  • Manage IT staff, including hiring, training, evaluation, coaching, etc.
  • Manage financial aspects of the IT department, including purchasing, budgeting, and budget review.
  • Negotiate and administer IT related vendor and consultant contracts and service agreements; manage outside vendors and consultants as required

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent in Information Technology or related field
  • 10 years of experience working with IT infrastructure and relevant applications and systems is required; IT function leadership including setting overall IT strategy is required and experience at a public small to mid-size biopharmaceutical or biotech company, including a remote sales organization, is preferred
  • Understanding of GxP validation concepts and procedures and understanding of financial systems and SOX compliance concepts/procedures is also preferred
  • Experience developing and implementing cyber security measures
  • Technical working knowledge of ITIL or other service management foundation guidelines
  • Significant knowledge and understanding of information technology, both hardware and software, and its application to address business needs
  • Familiarity with Finance ERP systems including implementation
  • Experience designing data transfer protocols across multiple points in the supply chain.
  • Occasional travel may be required
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines
  • Experience conducting relevant internal IT training
  • Must possess excellent problem solving, communication and customer service skills
