Veterinary Kennel Technician Job Description (Full-Time 30-35 hours)
Weekends and Holidays are required!!!
Weekday shifts are 7:30am to 5:30pm with a 1 hour lunch
Weekend and Holiday shifts are split shifts (am and pm)
The purpose of this position is to serve as kennel technician for Georgetown Veterinary Hospital, to provide care for patients while in the kennel, and to provide miscellaneous support to veterinarians and technicians. This position required a practical knowledge of hospital organization and services, the basic rules and regulations governing visitors and animal patient treatment, and a practical knowledge of the standard procedures, veterinary records and terminology used in the hospital.
Major Duties:
Feeding and watering animals according to the client or doctor’s instructions.
Walking pets to and from enclosed yard at least three times a day, and monitoring activity while in the yard.
Administering medications brought by in by clients as well as medications prescribed while staying in the kennel.
General grooming duties including bathing, brushing hair and teeth, trimming nails and cleaning ears.
Light grounds maintenance including watering plants, scooping entire property, cleaning sidewalks, patios, and parking lot.
Cleaning and sanitizing kennel, treatment areas, bathrooms, exam rooms, and surgery area.
Monitoring animals for illness or injury, as well as monitoring food and water consumption.
Skills and Knowledge:
Knowledge of hospital procedures and operating instructions for patient care and treatment and relaying information regarding patient’s condition.
Personal contacts are with animal owners affected by a variety of problems, visitors and other staff members. Considerable tact and diplomacy is required. Must accurately relay owner’s account on the medical complaints of the animals involved to the healthcare team members who will be involved in treating the patients.
Other Duties:
Open the kennel and set up for the day
Close the kennel in the evening
Walking and feeding animals on the weekends when the hospital is closed

Physical effort – The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, stand, stoop, walk, sit, and occasionally assist technicians with patient. The employee must be able to lift or move 30 pounds unassisted and more with the help of another employee.
Work environment- While performing the duties of this job the employee may be exposes to hazards associated with aggressive patients, hazards associated with infected animals, unpleasant odors and noises, animal waste, chemicals and contagious diseases.
