Director of Music Ministries

Purpose: Provide guidance, direction, and leadership for the Music programs of the Church in accordance with the goals, objectives and policies established by the Music & Drama Ministry, the Church Council, and the Senior Minister.

Qualifications:

· Must be able to read music. Able and willing to teach non-music readers basic music reading skills.

· Must be able to play piano.

· Proficient in directing musical groups with emphasis on choral direction.

· Able to organize, recruit, and lead choir(s) of various skill and experience level.

· Knowledgeable in the Set-up of audio equipment for worship and other performances.

· Able to coordinate and supervise the use of microphones, amplifiers, and sound board.

· Familiar with Christian church service music.

· Have an interest in sharing and spreading the joy of singing throughout the congregation and introducing and engaging youth in the music ministry.

Responsibilities:

· Coordinate and assist in planning the music activities for worship services with the Senior Minister, Music Staff, Property Manager and Church Staff.

· Direct and lead the Chancel Choir and/or other choral groups as agreed upon.

· Provide an open and nurturing environment for musicians to grow musically and spiritually.

· Work with the Music & Drama Ministry, Property Manager, Senior Minister, Music Staff and Church Staff to coordinate musical aspects of worship services and musical programs.

· Plan, coordinate, and direct one or two seasonal choir performances.

· Be the music leader during weekly worship services and other special services.

· Research and evaluate music for the choirs.

· Attend monthly meetings with the music ministry and ministerial staff related to the position or as requested by the Senior Minister.

· Work with the Music & Drama Ministry chair to prepare, plan and manage the Music Ministries budget.

· Maintain the choral music libraries and database.

· Effectively communicate musical activities within the church and the community.

· Contract with professionals as needed to maintain musical equipment.

· Provide for music and leadership when not present.

Annual average time approximately 12 hours per week consisting of one midweek at church rehearsal, one Sunday service and balance of hours are flexible as needed to plan and fulfill the above responsibilities.

Additional time is required during the Christmas and Easter season. Time commitment is reduced during summer months.

Compensation includes 2 paid weeks off including 2 Sundays.

Pay: $12,000.00 - $13,000.00 per year
