Job Title: Victim of Crime Advocate

Full-Time Non-Exempt Wage: TBD

Level: Level 1 or 2 Advocate Position Tier 5 or 6 TBD

General Definition: This position works in the community with clients as an advocate (focusing on Haven Emergency Temporary Safe Housing and Victim Intakes), has basic advocacy training, and has 1-2 years of advocacy or similar experience.

Supervision Received:Haven Director

None

Essential Job Functions:

· Strong advocacy skills: provide advocacy to Haven clients in Haven Emergency Temporary Safe Homes and those seeking emergency services.

· Assist Haven clients with their intake process.

· Process client invoices for services.

· Oversee the maintenance of the Haven Emergency Temporary Safe Homes.

· Assists Emergency Temporary Safe Home clients with support, referrals, and

· information related application and services needed.

· Asist Emergency Temporary Safe Home clients with intake forms; document services, and referrals provided. Create goals for clients to work toward self-sufficiency.

· Oversee Haven Emergency Temporary Safe Homes on a rotation of evenings and weekends.

· Coordinate Client intakes to assist with short term and long-term needs including victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, dating violence, and human trafficking.

· Work with local clients to complete safety plans, budgeting for future needs, and coordinate with other services needed for self-sufficiency.

· Work closely and interact with tribal and local law enforcement, supervisors, service providers, and other advocates, to ensure a survivor’s safety, rights, and needs are addressed.

· Community Outreach and Education.

· Education: Teach basic computer skills to clients at the Haven Client Center.

· Attend monthly support group and weekend outreach events as needed.

· Skills building with clients: resume creation, job application skills, interview skills, basic budgeting, etc.

· Assists with outreach to schools, community groups, and others interested in issues

related to sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking, and dating violence.

· Assists with providing community education and outreach as assigned by supervisor.

· Assists with providing professional training to groups such as law enforcement and other partner agencies as assigned.

· Actively participates at community meetings as assigned by supervisor.

· Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with community partners.

General Duties and Record Keeping

· Works Monday through Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm and is flexible with hours to provide outreach support on weekends when needed.

· Keeps and updates a list of referrals for victims. This list would include support groups, counselors, financial assistance counselors and others who are involved in the support of domestic violence victims

· Must be able to travel for training as required by grant funding.

· Completes all required service documentation in a thorough and timely manner.

· Adheres to organizational policies and work rules.

· Attends organization staff and team meetings as required.

· Maintains agency forms as required.

· Adheres to agency policies and work rules, including strict adherence to confidentiality policies and code of ethics.

· Attends trainings and continuing education activities as assigned, including travel required for those events.

· Performs other duties assigned.

Education:

· Education: Associate degree from an accredited college or advocacy experience and training equivalent.

· Experience: 1-2 years of strong advocacy experience as well as an understanding of advocacy and intake process and processing of client invoicing for services.

· Experience: Computer experience, resume creation, job application skills, and ability to teach basic computer skills to others.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Computer Skills: Must be able to work in google docs, social media, all Microsoft office Applications (word, excel, PowerPoint)

· Ability to teach basic computer skills to others.

· Ability to teach basic budgeting, resume creation, and job application skills.

· Writing Skills: Must be able to speak effectively. May be expected to present in front of a group in individuals who may have difficulty understanding domestic violence.

· Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form required.

· Ability to navigate social media for outreach and program education required

· Ability to maintain accurate and complete files and data collection documentations.

· Ability to work independently with limited supervision required.

· Ability to Reason: Must be able to confront and solve basic practical issues and

· problems. These can arise in a variety of situations

· Language Skills: Must be able to read and understand related documents. Examples are law enforcement reports, regulations of the local, state and federal government, and be able to understand legal interpretations.

Licenses/Certifications/Other:

· Current valid driver’s license

· Must be able to pass a background check

· Must be able to complete pre-employment drug test with a negative result.
