Cordova Police Department is Hiring a Dispatcher Near Cordova, AL

Part time position 26-30 hours per week

- Receive and analyze incoming emergency and non-emergency calls in a timely manner

-Gather relevant information from callers to determine the nature and urgency of situation

-Communicates via radio, computer, telephone or in person instructions of accidents or emergency situations that require emergency personnel in a timely accurate manner

-Runs identification and vehicle information checks through proper channels and report information to proper staff.

-Question callers to determine location and seriousness of emergency and response needed

-Transmits and receives messages between other agencies, 911 and fire departments.

-Contacts police officers to verify assignment locations, monitor dispatch unit safety.

-Enters data into computer

- Performs additional duties and task as needed or required

-Performs a variety of clerical duties including confirming warrants, handling inmates, finger printing and operates the National Crime Information center (NCIC).

-Dealing with inmates etc.: Serving meals, booking and releasing, gathering medical information

-Must be able to multi-task

-Should have a positive attitude, and ability to work efficiently and effectively in stressful situations

-Ability to work with sensitive and private information, while maintaining confidentiality

Due to the nature of this job, the Department is open 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

Must be willing to work rotate hours and weekends.

hours can consist of :

  • 10-hour shifts
  • 12-hour shifts
  • 8-hour shifts
  • Overtime
  • Weekends as needed
  • Qualifications

-Must be at least 18 years old

-Demonstrate excellent communication skills, including speaking clearly and distinctly

-Good organizational and follow through skills

-Determine work ethic

-Clean background

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $12.50 - $14.50 per hour
