The Arts Teacher’s job is to organize, plan, conduct and evaluate age appropriate art classes for club members. Classes and activities are to be designed for scholar’s use their creativity, express themselves in a positive way and develop their cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciation of the fine and graphic arts.

Plan classes and appropriate assignments according to course requirements.

Explain various elements of art.

Introduce techniques and procedures for painting, sketching, designing and sculpting.

Impart knowledge on the history of art, illustration and commercial art through lectures and audio-video aids.

Encourage students to develop personal styles and express themselves through the medium of art.

Evaluate assignments – make observations and offer constructive criticism.

Organize field trips to museums and art galleries.

Foster an atmosphere conducive to the intellectual, social and emotional development of pupils.

Grade and maintain records of student performance.

Counsel students when academic or adjustment problems arise.

Plan contests and organize exhibitions.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Experience or course of study in art education, art therapy or related field.
• Enthusiastic and creative individual with the ability to work directly with members.
• Ability to communicate orally and written form with members, parents, staff and volunteers.
• Ability to market programs and activities.
• Understanding of group dynamics.
• Good teaching skills, which make classes interesting for pupils and encourage them to participate.
• Patience and approachability so that students feel comfortable to express themselves freely.

A Bachelor’s or higher degree, with a major or minor in art is normally essential.

Experience of at least 2 years is generally preferred.

Certification or a license from the Department of Education
