Position Summary:
The Olin Library at Rollins College is seeking an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Librarian. This position is a tenure-track faculty position. The successful candidate is expected to be appointed as an assistant professor. Under the direction of the Head of Research Services, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Librarian will be responsible for, but not limited to, the areas listed below:
  • Instruction
    • Provide information literacy instruction in a liberal arts environment, general undergraduate instruction (including, on occasion, credit bearing courses), upper division and subject specific information literacy instruction.
    • Develop innovative ways to enhance the information literacy of students using online instruction, asynchronous online learning modules, and artificial intelligence platforms and procedures.
    • Create and deliver instruction that aids in the development of students' understanding and use of artificial intelligence in their academic careers and daily lives.
    • Lead an effort within Olin Library to effectively integrate the ACRL Framework into the teaching and use of artificial intelligence in the classroom.
    • Coordinate, in conjunction with other library staff, technology outreach activities to promote adoption of current and new technology tools provided by Olin Library, as well as artificial intelligence platforms that can be integrated into learning.Teaching, mentoring, or supporting the educational pursuits of underrepresented students.
    • Digital Projects
      • In conjunction with the Digital Strategies & Scholarly Communication Department, develop and execute digital projects utilizing innovative technologies to assist users and augment their experiences.
      • Develop library AI policies in alignment with accepted industry guidelines, best practices, and workflows for AI-affiliated projects.
      • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders on projects related to AI and supporting its use from Olin Library.
      • As Olin Library’s point of contact for AI questions and issues, share expertise about and engage the community on issues related to AI.Collaborate with the Tutoring and Writing Center (TWC) staff concerning instruction, evaluation, and support concerning AI in the tutoring environment.
      • Liaison
        • Develop liaison relationships with faculty members in assigned departments.
        • Partner with faculty to improve student information literacy and incorporate the ACRL Framework into teaching and research consultations.
        • Work with the Head of Collections and faculty members to develop the collection in all formats in appropriate disciplines.
        • Encourage communication between all faculty and the library.
        • Seek innovative projects, services, and resources in partnership with faculty and students to improve library support.
        • Develop a plan to integrate the library into campus-wide conversations and lead the internal charge of understanding AI impacts on departmental interactions and services of Olin Library.Maintain a desire to contribute to diversity in the curriculum.
        • Professional Development, Research and Scholarship
          • Stay abreast of new developments and trends in academic libraries.
          • Maintain current awareness of issues and trends concerning the use of emerging technologies and AI in libraries through professional development activities.
          • Continued and growing membership and activity in appropriate professional organizations.
          • Continuing education in appropriate area(s) of librarianship.
          • Research and scholarship in academic librarianship or another appropriate discipline.
          • Strong potential to meet the requirements for tenure and promotion outlined in the departmental criteria.
Minimum Qualifications and Education:
  • MLS, MLIS, or MSIS from an ALA-accredited library school.

The successful candidate will demonstrate most, if not all, of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Posses a second graduate degree.
  • Enthusiasm for teaching and experience with information literacy instruction with groups and individuals.
  • Understanding of the current and future artificial intelligence environments and their impact on academic libraries.
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing; in various media.
  • Ability to interact with the public and academic community effectively and courteously.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
  • Appreciation for the liberal arts and the role of the library in higher education.
  • Ability to deal with and lead change in a rapidly developing library environment.
  • Potential to present, publish, or otherwise contribute to academic librarianship or another appropriate discipline.
  • Willingness to work non-standard hours including some evenings and weekends.
  • Values and creates a welcoming environment for all.
