POSITION SUMMARY: The Social Worker will work as a collaborative team member with District staff, school staff, and community partners to remove barriers to student academic performance, educational access, and overall well-being.

Manifest a professional code of ethics and values at all times. • Support activities designed to achieve priority goals identified through the District’s strategic plan. • Perform professional role to further the department’s vision and mission, to include participation in school and District initiatives. • Participate in school multidisciplinary teams to address the mental health needs, educational needs, and safety concerns of students and schools. • Provide individual and/or group evidence-based counseling interventions. • Provide crisis intervention as needed. • Develop a comprehensive social-developmental history for identified students utilizing interviews, assessments, and documentation from other sources. • Assist to remove barriers to student academic performance, educational access, and overall well-being. • Mentor new colleagues and/or supervise student interns as needed. • Provide professional development to relevant stakeholders to support understanding of actors (e.g., cultural, societal, economic, familial, health, etc.) affecting students’ academic, social, and mental well-being. • Conduct home visits as needed to facilitate professional role. • Promote a school climate and culture conducive to student learning. • Collaborate with District staff, school staff, and community partners to meet the needs of students and families. • Maintain appropriate and timely records. • Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: L-Light Work – Required to push, pull, or lift up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES: Balancing Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or moving surfaces. Bending Lowering the body forward from the waist. Climbing Ascending or descending stairs, ramps, etc., using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Crouching Bending the body downward and forward by bending the leg and spine. Dexterity Utilize hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, hand and power tools, and to handle other computer components. Grasping Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. Hearing Acuity The ability to perceive speech and other environmental sounds at normal volume levels. Kneeling Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees. Reaching Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Repetitive Motion Substantial and continuous movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Sitting Resting with the body supported by the buttocks or thighs. Standing Assuming an upright position on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time. Stooping Bending the body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist through the use of the lower extremities and back muscles. Twisting Moving the body from the waist, using a turning motion. Visual Acuity The power to see at a level that allows reading of numbers and text, operation of equipment, and inspection of machines, etc. Walking Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Indoors/Outdoors The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside. Noise The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Education – A Master’s or higher degree with a graduate major in social work that includes three hundred hours or more of field placement in a K-12 school setting from a program accredited by the National Council on Social Work Education or accredited by the National Council of Social Work Education or accredited in accordance with the provisions of Rule 6A4.003, FAC. or a Master’s or higher degree with a graduate major in social work that includes three-hundred hours or more of field placement with diverse individuals in a community setting other than a prekindergarten, an elementary, or a secondary school.
Experience – Experience in the role of school social worker preferred.
Computer Skills – Basic understanding and knowledge of use of current technology, as required for the position.
Certificates and/or License(s) – Florida Department of Education Certification in school Social Work.
