Position: Upper School English Teacher – Part Time
Division: Upper School
Reports to: Head of Upper School and Chair of English Department
Job Description:
The Upper School English Department seeks a dynamic English teacher to teach two sections of Upper School English during the 2024-2025 school year.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
? Teaching two sections of English
? Intense focus on developing reading, writing, inquiry, and critical analysis skills.
? Teacher Collaboration
? Attends regular meetings for appropriate grade level English teacher teams as well as with student support teams to discuss student concerns and progress as necessary.
? Collaborates with the Director of Teaching and Learning, Upper School Dean of Students and School Counselors when appropriate to ensure students are being fully supported and challenged.
? Participate in all required meetings.
? Communicate with parents/guardians about student progress as necessary.
Requirements
Requirements:
? Bachelor’s degree (in English or related humanities field).
? At least 3 to 5 years of classroom teaching experience.
? A sound understanding of the developmental stages of high school students.
? Experience developing and implementing units of study aimed at skill development and content delivery in the English classroom.
? Ability and willingness to facilitate differentiated, student-centered best practices.
? Ability and capacity to nurture student discovery, autonomy of thought and skill development.
? Ability to be organized and manage a series of student information platforms and systems, including: Google Classroom, Gmail.
? Demonstrated cross-cultural competence--ability to effectively teach, learn, and engage in a multicultural environment with a diverse student body--in pedagogical practice and multicultural curriculum content.
? Demonstrated capacity in culturally responsive professional practices, excellent communication skills, and ability to constructively collaborate with colleagues.
? Demonstrated capacity to thrive in our diverse community, including but not limited to diversity in race, ethnicity, gender identity, socio-economic status, ability/disability, belief, sexual orientation, and national origin according to our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion principles.
? Must have a demonstrated alignment with King’s Mission and Virtues.
