Lake Bluff Park District is Hiring a Fitness Group Instructors Near Bluff, IL

Job Overview:

We are seeking passionate and knowledgeable Fitness Instructors to join our team. The ideal candidates will have expertise in fitness disciplines and a strong desire to help individuals achieve their health and wellness goals.

Hours

The hours will vary with classes offered and could be a combination of days, evenings, and or weekends. Additional hours may be available for personal training appointments. Hours may have some flexibility for each individual instructor and type of class offered. Hours could vary by one class per week, to leading up to multiple classes per week, subject to growing demand. Current demands are for 1 – 2 classes per week and could be scheduled around the selected Instructor’s current schedule to maximize availability.

Position Summary

Fitness Group Instructor, Pilates, Yoga, Group X, Other

Group Exercise Instructors lead a group of participants through a series of movements and exercises. Group Exercise Instructors can lead many forms of fitness activities. Group Exercise workouts are accomplished with the instructor leading the class by doing the workout along with the participants who follow her/his lead. Instructors may need to audition as part of the interview process.

Personal Trainer

Personal Training oversees all aspects of clients’ training needs and maintains documentation for progress improvement as may be requested.

Essential Functions

· Arrive early to each fitness session, at least 10 minutes before the start time of a session to prep, set-up, and greet participants.

· Must wear proper attire (shirt, proper shoes, no hats).

· Meet participants before and after class to answer questions and maintain a positive exercise experience.

· Record attendance numbers for every class.

· Ensure all class participants have paid to enter the class.

· Supervise and instruct fitness classes as scheduled in accordance with all Lake Bluff Park District standards.

· Complete appropriate forms and reports for individual students, as applicable

· Communicate with the Fitness Supervisor when unsafe conditions occur or report equipment in need of repair.

· Provide legally purchased music appropriate for the exercise format.

· Ability to cooperate and work well with other staff members and the LBPD Guests.

· Assist with subbing whenever possible to support the Fitness Group Instructor Team.

· Enforce all rules and regulations as indicated in the manual or any other rules as assigned by the manager on duty.

· Maintain a high level of readiness and be prepared to handle any emergency situations. In an emergency, a supervisor must be notified or paged immediately.

· Have a working and functional knowledge of safety, rescue, and first aid equipment located at the Lake Bluff Health and Fitness Center.

· Must attend scheduled staff meetings and training.

· Support & exhibit the established mission, vision, and organizational values.

· Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.

Personal Trainer

· Develop one-on-one or group training programs to optimize the fitnessneeds of the clients participating.

· Act as a motivator for clients.

· Perform assessments and orientations as requested by new and current members.

· Must be able to demonstrate movements and activities assigned to the clients.

· Performs the job safely and in compliance with Park District policies, procedures, work, and safety rules.

· Maintain a high level of readiness and be prepared to handle any emergency situations. In an emergency, a supervisor must be notified or paged immediately.

· Have a working and functional knowledge of safety, rescue, and first aid equipment located at the Lake Bluff Health and Fitness Center.

· Must attend scheduled staff meetings and training.

Skills / Qualifications

Qualified candidates are required to achieve and maintain a minimum of one Group Fitness Certification from a nationally recognized organization and any combination of training and experience that provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:

· Certified through national organization (ACE, AFFA, NASM, ACSM, ISSA, NEIDTA).

· Adult CPR with AED training and First Aid certificate, or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment start.

· Prefer some college from an institution accredited by the U.S. Department of Education, especially anatomy and basic knowledge of fitness principles.

· Ability to provide excellent guest service and the ability to positively interact with guests.

· Leadership capabilities and adaptability at the front of a class making each session fun and enjoyable while motivating participants.

· The ability to move rhythmically to the beat of the music including the ability to incorporate optimal usage of cueing, tempo, choreography, and safe transitional movements from one pattern to another.

· Organizational skills in creating combinations to be taught within the parameters of the format.

· Working knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology, and training principles.

Supervision

Under the general direction of the Fitness Manager, the individual must be self-motivated and capable of initiating and developing tasks on a regular basis. The individual will perform projects as assigned by the Fitness Supervisor. Guidance is provided through departmental policies, Park District operating practices and procedures, and other resources applicable to the specific project assigned. Work is evaluated at least annually with respect to problem-solving ability, customer service, research, analytical skills, written and verbal communication skills, and performance in accordance with this classification standard.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally aide or assist participants. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must have a high degree of energy, be physically fit, and have the endurance to complete the workout.

Pay: $27.14 - $33.00 per hour
