Oliver Packaging Equipment is Hiring a Quality Manager Near Walker, MI

The Quality Manager plays a pivotal role in upholding the organization's highest standards of product quality and safety. Responsibilities encompass developing and overseeing robust processes, identifying areas for improvement and driving continuous enhancements to quality management systems. Essential expertise in food safety certification processes to determine the necessity of certification programs at Oliver, as well as ensuring adherence to regulatory mandates and industry benchmarks, when required. Moreover, this position entails providing clear and detailed product specifications to ensure consistency and excellence throughout production stages. Tasked with spearheading continuous improvement initiatives, the Quality Manager ensures ongoing enhancements in product quality and operational efficiency within work processes.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Establishes weekly, monthly and annual objectives to ensure priorities are aligned with organization plans and priorities.
  • Responsible for ISO-based internal quality audits, external supplier audits and customer requirement reviews to drive process improvements across all departments.
  • Works with department managers/supervisors to ensure compliance and improvement to established quality system requirements and standards. Reviews new or revised Quality System documentation for acceptance.
  • Ensures internal and external customer needs related to Quality System activities are met, in accordance with the established requirements.
  • Essential proficiency in food safety certification to evaluate the need for certifications, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and industry norms, as necessary.
  • Develops a high-performance Quality team. Teach, coach, counsel, discipline, plan and evaluate job performance.
  • Maintains quality documentation system, collaborates with other members of management in the development of new products and engineering designs and manufacturing and training methods.
  • Ensures documented standards are effective and clearly written. May assist others with the writing and revision of policies, procedures and work instructions.
  • Ensures department and senior managers understand the operations process capability and the customer’s quality concerns/experience. Activities include collecting, analyzing and communicating information and trends to senior management.
  • Ensures the timely resolution of customer complaints and NCM processes by effectively administering the Corrective and Preventive Action Program (CAPA). Prepares product and process quality reports; collects, analyzes, summarizes and communicates information and trends to senior management.
  • Cost Containment / Reduction: Recommends improvements that identify and reduce areas of waste. Proactively looks at trends and develops action plans or suggestions in a collaborative approach with other functional areas to drive ongoing improvement.
  • Collaborates closely with all departments to coordinate and effectively execute process validation activities.
  • Assists in Supplier Management System by qualifying and requalifying suppliers, in collaboration with Supply Chain.
  • Verifies that all employees at the designated location receive training on the quality policy.
  • Controls and maintains codes and quality-related processes with ERP software system.
  • Models the company’s values to create a culture of open communication, customer centricity, data-driven decisions and respectful collaboration.
  • Use Key Performance Indicators and metrics to communicate goals and progress.
  • Develop team members’ technical and communication skills with thoughtful needs analysis and development planning.
  • Prepare thoughtful operational plans, improvement targets, and budgets.

Basic Qualifications

Education:

  • B.S. in Quality, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering, or closely related field.

Experience:

  • 5 years of Quality and leadership experience
  • Hands-on experience and working knowledge of quality assurance in ISO, Lean, and/or Six Sigma regulated environments.
  • CQM or CQA certification preferred.

Other Requirements:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent listening skills and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proven ability to drive operational improvement through effective management systems such as CAPA and process validation.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues, subordinates, superiors and customers.

Technical Skills

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills and experience with ERP and business applications
  • Demonstrated ability to follow through on details and enter data into computer systems quickly and accurately.

Work Environment:

  • This position offers a hybrid work arrangement.
