Job Description

The Court Security Officer maintains order and control access to the Lake County Government complex; annexes and assigned remote satellite locations. Level of responsibilities increases through the ranks of the officer; Sargent and Lieutenant.

Duties

Ø Perform entrance control: Enforce the County’s entry and identification system which includes operating security screening equipment to detect weapons, contraband, and prohibited items, checking items such as handbags, briefcases, computers, packages, baby carriages, wheelchairs, etc.

Ø Provide security by patrolling interior and exterior of buildings and escorting VIP personnel; visitors and employees

Ø Enforce department rules of behavior and warn persons not to disturb current work procedures.

Ø Perform stationary post assignments: Stand guard at stationary posts which include (but is not limited to) monitoring closed-circuit television, duress alarm systems and other security equipment, courtrooms, judge’s chambers, and jury rooms.

Ø Perform escort duties: When directed, provide armed escort services for judges, court personnel, jurors, and other designated individuals.

Ø Enforce law and order: Enforce state law while in the performance of assigned duties. Includes (but is not limited to) detaining any person attempting to gain unauthorized access to Government property, or court proceeding(s) or attempting to commit acts that imperil the safety and security of Government employees, property and the public.

Ø Prepare reports and records: Prepare various reports and records regarding performance issues, such as labor hours worked, accidents, fire, bomb threats, unusual incidents or unlawful acts that occurred within the court facility area.

Ø Court attendance: Responsible for securing unattended courtrooms, an inspection of courtrooms before a proceeding, testing of security devices, and other duties concerning security of the court area.

Ø Preserve order: Responsible for providing security presence in the courtroom, enforcing state law and judicial orders within the courtroom, enforcing local court rules regarding prohibited items and providing protection to court proceedings as circumstances dictate.

Ø All other tasks as assigned

Customer and Personal Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. Includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent GED. / Two years of College from an accredited institution (Preferred).

Physical Requirements: good physical condition and able to stand and sit for long periods, and do not have any physical, cognitive or emotional conditions that would prevent completing job duties. The Court Security Officer shall carry a fully loaded weapon per state/federal law.

Work Environment: The Court Security performs work directly with the Public. Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, and or subordinates — Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person and observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from diverse backgrounds people. Also, the Court Security Officer will be able to establish and Maintain Interpersonal Relationships by developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintain them over time.

This position requires the court security officer when appropriate confiscate prohibited or dangerous items; Search individuals for illegal or dangerous items. Escort personnel (Costumer, guest, or VIPs) throughout the facility. Patrol property to maintain safety.

Additional Requirements:

Language Skills: Must have the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English. Must possess the ability to understand, explain, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, directives, and procedures.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must have a valid driver's license from state of residency and a safe driving record for the past five years.

Firearm Proficiency: Must show firearm proficiency and pass state qualifications standards
Other Qualifications: Must be at least 21 years of age; Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check
