Job titleMiddle School Math TeacherReports toPrincipalJob purposeThe purpose of this position is to provide quality tier one math instruction to our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classes using a curriculum called Algebra : Plain and Simple.

In addition, classroom teachers help accomplish the mission of the school, which is to nurture creative, critical thinkers who contribute to the well-being of their communities.

Teachers at the Boggs School use a place-based model of instruction that exposes students to content material through inquiry-based learning, a connection to place, and civic action.

The goal is to provide students with the academic and social emotional tools to achieve ambitious goals and to live lives of and responsibilities* Including but not limited to : School Culture* Familiarity with the school's origins, including the lives and legacy of James and Grace Lee Boggs* Familiarity with Place-Based Education and ability to discuss PBE with school community stakeholders.

QualificationsMinimum qualifications : K-8 State of Michigan Teaching Certification; K-5 State of Michigan Elementary CertificationOther qualifications : Experience teaching in urban areas (with excellent recommendations from former colleagues)Additional subject certifications, specialized knowledge or talents Music, Foreign Language, Juggling, Sewing, Important characteristics : Comfort with facing ambiguity, struggling through conflict for personal and collective growthA collaborative spiritHumilityFlexibilityStrong organizational skillsPhysical requirementsClassroom teachers supervise dismissal every day for 15 minutes barring rain or below zero temperatures.
