Innovative Services NW is Hiring an Assistant Teacher (WSUV) Near Vancouver, WA

SUMMARY: The Assistant Teacher (ECEAP) works under the direction of the classroom Lead Teacher to provide instructional direction and support to children ages 3 to 5 years old. This includes classroom instruction, maintaining health and safety standards, family support, and compliance with all Early Learning and ECEAP Performance Standards, laws, and related regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Classroom instruction

  • Daily implementation of age-appropriate activities and lesson plans, under the direction of the Lead Teacher
  • Organize and supervise games and other recreational activities to promote physical, mental, and social development
  • Meet the physical needs of each child; provide extra assistance to students with special needs, such as non-English-speaking students or those with physical and mental disabilities
  • Interact with children and extend learning experiences
  • Facilitate social/emotional development in a self-esteem building environment
  • Model appropriate behavior—positive guidance techniques
  • Help keep classroom looking neat and professional

Perform other duties and projects as assigned

WORK ENVIROMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a preschool setting. The noise level is moderate to loud. Spaces may be somewhat confined. Experiencing strong odors and unpleasant bodily fluids are a part of working with children in this age group. Occasional climbing onto a play structure to help a child to safety may be required. The employee will be required to be outdoors with the children in all kinds of weather including wind, rain, cold and snow.

POSITION TYPE and expected hours of work: This is a full-time (30-40 hours/week) hourly position. The childcare center hours are Monday through Friday 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.

  • The equivalent of 12 college quarter credits in early childhood education (ECE) or a current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential awarded by the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition OR complete and adhere to the goal deadlines in a Professional Development Plan
  • Experience working with children 3 to 5 years of age and/or family service involvement with a focus on Special Services
  • Demonstrate (during a working interview) knowledge of early childhood growth, development and appropriate practices
  • Basic STARS (30 hours) training required within 90 days of hire date; 15 hours of STARS approved training required every year thereafter
  • Must pass a criminal history background check, obtain CPR and First Aid certifications, show proof of a negative TB test and obtain a Food Handler’s card prior to first day of work
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds or more
  • Proficient in the English Language; multi-lingual preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.00 - $20.75 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
