SUMMARY: We are in search of a Project Manager/Estimator with Business Development skills to produce and assemble bids for Electric Vehicle Charging Installations and other projects and then manage those projects to ensure successful implementation of Baker Electric’s values and objectives. This role is a dynamic part of our Special Projects Group and will require a key individual who is fluent in preliminary design, laying out projects, building estimates, constructing projects and fostering positive relationships with both clients and internal teams.
We are looking for an energetic and dedicated team member who can take full ownership of a large portfolio of work for a client. This role will include significant client face to face time, engineering/layout, leading a dedicated team, and be responsible for one of the most exciting endeavors at the company.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Preconstruction & Estimating:
  • Walk sites and efficiently layout electrical infrastructure including new utility services, electrical distribution equipment, and end devices such as electric vehicle chargers. Understand impacts of terrain, site conditions, engineering constraints, and client needs to develop accurate site plans.
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, site conditions and other documentation or situations to perform take-offs and review quantities in order to compute accurate project cost which will be utilized to formulate estimates using best practices, labor factoring and strategic material purchases which will be complied then used in preparing accurate and competitive bid estimates and proposals.
  • Participate in meetings to review estimates and proposals which will be submitted to Public and or Private Entities in the pursuit of securing revenue for the group. Estimates and proposals will be reviewed and put together by the PM/EST in a manner that will limit errors and reduce project risk.
  • Receive bid invitations from the Business Development Team; verify the number of competitors; review bid documents and generate RFI’s to expose details that may reduce the number of potential bidders; and or provide a competitive advantage; and or provide clarity of ambiguity within a request for proposal.
  • Take lead or assist in selecting and obtaining prices from vendors, subcontractors for the purpose of preparing an accurate bid estimate and proposal with minimal risk and a competitive outcome.
  • Prepare and participate in the job hand-off, planning and job kick-off process which will be utilized to keep all team members informed of what was contemplated in the estimate prior to commencement of the work.
Project Management:
  • Oversee the completion of construction in accordance with the Contract Documents and prevailing building codes. Ensuring compliance with all contract documents.
  • Review all contracts received to verify cost, scope, risk, ensuring qualifications and exclusions are acceptable prior to execution of the subcontract agreements.
  • Personally ensure all project-associated Baker Electric employees follow and understand Baker Electric’s interpretation of the project’s specifications and contract documents. Assist Foremen and Area Superintendents with any conflicts within the drawings, specifications, General/Special Conditions and coordinate possible solutions as needed.
  • Maintain complete financial responsibility for the project ensuring labor, material, equipment and subcontract budgets are at a minimum achieved and as a general rule improved upon.
  • Responsible to produce a complete and accurate material buyout for Gear, Lighting and Special Equipment based upon a recount and or a verified equipment/material list. Compare this recount or verified list to the estimate value and resolve discrepancies if applicable.
  • Completely manage the submittal and delivery process ensuring project milestones are achieved and product is on the jobsite at the most advantageous time for installation.
  • Responsible to completely and accurately “scope” all subcontracted items of the project to ensure compliance and completeness with the contract documents (subcontracted systems, excavation, testing services, etc.), negotiate the scope and conditions of the subcontract agreement when applicable.
  • Manage the monthly billing process to the client and the subcontractors or vendors whom partner with Baker Electric to support the project.
  • Prepare accurate and supportable change request estimates as necessary and negotiate the best possible pricing for Baker Electric. Ensure prompt submission of these requests and be completely familiar with the General Conditions or Contract Conditions concerning Contract terms, conditions and timelines.
  • Maintain and ensure accuracy of all logs and project associated tracking tools. Ensure Project Management documentation is accurate within the Company Accounting and reporting system.
  • Participate in final contract negotiations and facilitate closing deals, when and where required.
  • Create milestone schedules and cost breakdowns including crew rates and size. For projects that have a schedule which is maintained by the client or other the PM will be responsible for promptly notifying the client when there is a schedule impact, compression, delay, out of sequence work or any other factor that will impact the cost to complete the work for Baker Electric.
  • Conduct contract review after the bid is awarded to ensure scope of work and price is accurately reflected in contract.
  • During design build projects coordinate with the electrical engineer to ensure scope of work accurately reflects the RFP, original estimate, and budget.
  • Monitor job progress, preparing cost to complete estimates, and man-hour to complete estimates on a monthly basis for financial reporting.
  • Review and qualify all field generated RFIs and requests prior to submittal to the General contractor or Owner.
  • Enforce company policy and procedures in regards to professional standards, safety, and ethics.
  • Be comfortable as the Prime Contractor, and main point of contact for subs, clients, end users, internal teams, and other project stakeholders.
Business Development:
  • Actively maintain extensive knowledge and assist in documenting key client personnel and groups for a targeted customer base. Assist Baker with understanding their positions in the business market allowing Baker to maximize potential customer service and revenues within existing and new accounts.
  • Establish target list of customers; ensure that their needs are identified and satisfied.
  • Build key customer relationships to maintain a good position in the business market.
Key 30, 60, 90 Day Accomplishments:
  • First 30: Become familiar with the estimating and project management processes utilized within the group to secure and manage revenue within the group.
  • First 60: Become a contributing team member preparing accurate bid estimates and proposals while collaborating with the team to obtain best results within the group.
  • First 90: Develop a business plan for success and participate in revenue projections understanding how to accurately project cost to completion for financial reporting.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION:
  • 3 – 5 years of experience in project management, estimating, and/or engineering within the electrical industry
  • 1 - 3 years of experience in business development or sales a plus
  • Successful graduation or completion of electrical based training or education: I.B.E.W. Journeyman; CA Electrical JW License; Engineer in Training, Professional Engineer
  • Experience working with electrical maintenance, repair, power conversion, medium voltage, or similar related projects in the $500 - $5mm range is a plus
  • Proficiency in MS Office: Excel, Word, Outlook, Bluebeam, Procore, MS Project, or other related Construction Management, Accubid or other related Construction Estimating software
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required, Bachelor’s Degree in related field a plus

The starting salary for this opportunity range is listed. Other rewards may include annual bonus eligibility, which is based on company and individual performance, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards.
