Job Summary:
Directs the personnel, financial, research and overall administrative activities of the Department and/or Division to ensure compliance with the policies and procedures of the Wayne Health, Wayne State University and affiliated hospitals.
Job Description:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of annual operating budgets, in collaboration with the Chairman. Complete related financial analyses to support assumptions or programs contained in the budget. Ensure that the overall budget represents a fair assessment of the likely financial outcome of the Department.
  • Implement approved budgets and manage the Department within the approved financial targets and guidelines, in collaboration with the Chairman. Provide financial l management support and analysis throughout the year. Perform financial analyses to support operational decision-making. Guide appropriate decision-making based on current, complete and accurate financial information.
  • Manage faculty, physician, trainee and student activities within the Department including those related to payroll, physician status, productivity, recruitment, immigration issues, and physician relations.
  • Actively participate with leadership in developing business and strategic plans for the Department. Assist in the development of financial, production, compensation and operational targets and models.
  • Participate in overseeing the operations of the clinical practice(s). Ensure that the day-to-day operations of the Practice(s) are appropriately managed to support the clinical goals of the Department. Participate in ensuring that clinical standards, service standards, billing standards, and all relevant WSUPG policies and procedures are routinely adhered to.
  • Manage the Human Resources activities of the Department including those related to recruitment, hiring, orientation, training, disciplinary actions, termination s, performance evaluation, goal-setting, employee relations and staff payroll. Comply with all applicable WSUPG policies and procedures.
  • Under the Direction of the Chair or his/her designee, oversee and/or administer relevant aspects of the Department' s research program, including ensuring regulatory compliance, reviewing grant applications , overseeing post-award financial management , designing and monitoring research faculty start-up packages.
  • Manage other diverse needs of the Department , including those related to facilities, information systems, communication, coordination among entities, marketing , managed care, etc.
Education, Licensure/Certification, and Training:
  • Master 's Degree in Business , Healthcare Admin or equivalent.
  • 7-10 years progressively more responsible supervisory experience in related area.
  • 5-7 years management experience in administering a professional practice including responsibilities for medical billing and operations.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an academic setting, health system setting, or large mixed physician practice organization
Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, physicians, management, staff, and other customers.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills, including the ability to use appropriate judgement, independent thinking and creativity when resolving customer issues.
  • Ability to effectively handle challenging situations.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use personal computers and select software applications.

  • Compliance with Department Health and Safety policies and procedures
Working Conditions/Schedule:
  • 40-hour work week, hours and days to be determined by the business needs of the department. Additional hours may be required
