SUMMARY The Manufacturing Engineer will identify operational and process improvement opportunities; manage all phases of capital projects from conception to completion; work with operations and departments across the organization to identify and support continuous improvement projects using data analysis and input from Associates. This is a hands-on position.
Projects will be implemented using solid project management processes to meet schedule, cost, and customer satisfaction deliverables. Engineering/reengineering activities will be characterized by accuracy, durability, efficiency, and regulatory compliance. (FDA, OSHA, regulatory requirements related to the nutraceutical industry, etc.). Propose, design, implement, and validate process improvements throughout the facility. 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform process and system evaluation of production and production support processes. Identify, define, and lead continuous improvement projects to improve overall efficiencies and reduce downtime and waste.
  • Plans and implements the design of plants, offices, and production lines to maximize the use of available space and improve production efficiency.
  • Actively participate in Continuous Improvement Initiatives by leading and supporting projects using Lean and Six Sigma principles.
  • Estimates costs related to layout design, including equipment and materials, labor, etc.
  • Responsibility to manage capital projects, including project definition, scope, cost & ROI analysis, scheduling, layout, construction/installation supervision, punch list, and controlling and reporting activities.
  • Participate in selecting, approving, and developing equipment and assemblies to satisfy production, distribution, and facility requirements.
  • Design and develop new concepts, devices, and components to improve efficiency within the facility.
  • Develop relationships with outside contractors, equipment suppliers, machine, and fabrication shops, etc. to outsource design and fabrication work using minimal internal resources.
  • Review equipment and facility layouts, analyze space utilization to reorganize workflow, restructure job duties, maximize operating efficiencies, and address ergonomic issues.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, or other related engineering discipline; and a minimum of three to five years related experience is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Education and experience with Lean/Six Sigma methodologies is strongly preferred.
  • Direct project management experience with capital projects as they relate to new equipment, systems, and processes from project conception through completion is required.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar computer design programs is required.
  • Knowledge of DCS (Digital control systems), OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), computer programming, and integration of PLCs into server systems for the purpose of data acquisition or data transfer is a plus.
