We are currently hiring a Server Engineer in Chicago! You will be working a hybrid schedule, with being onsite 2-3 days per week.

Shift/Location:

Regular Business Hours

Hybrid – 2-3 days onsite; Chicago, IL 60654

Salary: up to $100,000 annually

As a Server Engineer , you will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and maintaining the client's server infrastructure. This includes physical and virtual servers running and supporting Windows, Linux, Citrix, VMWare, Azure and other cloud solutions. The Server Engineer is responsible for maintaining high availability and security of the client's data and infrastructure.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Server Infrastructure Management:

  • Design, deploy, and manage the organization's server infrastructure to support various applications and services.
  • Optimize server configurations for performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Monitor server health, capacity, and utilization to proactively identify and resolve issues.

System Administration:

  • Perform routine server maintenance tasks such as backups, updates, and patches.
  • Handle server provisioning and decommissioning as per business requirements.
  • Monitor system logs and implement proactive measures to enhance security and prevent potential issues.

Server Security:

  • Implement and enforce robust security measures to safeguard server infrastructure and data.
  • Stay updated with the latest security best practices and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.

Troubleshooting and Incident Response:

  • Respond promptly to server-related incidents and troubleshoot issues effectively.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve complex technical problems.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support for critical server issues.

Performance Optimization:

  • Identify performance bottlenecks and areas for improvement within the server infrastructure.
  • Work closely with application developers to optimize server resources for specific workloads.

Automation and Scripting:

  • Develop automation scripts to streamline server deployment, configuration, and management processes.
  • Utilize configuration management tools to maintain consistent server environments.

Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:

  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation related to server infrastructure, configurations, and procedures.
  • Share knowledge and best practices with team members to enhance overall skill levels.

Research and Innovation:

  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in server engineering.
  • Propose and implement innovative solutions to improve server performance and efficiency.

Minimum Required Education and/or Experience Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field,
  • In lieu of education, 6-8 years of IT experience
  • 5-6 years of relevant experience in all aspects server data infrastructure as referenced within but not limited to specific requirements and skills.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Qualifications

  • Proficient in Windows server operating systems, Linux Servers and Active Directory (AD)
  • Must be able to pass safety testing as required
  • Knowledge of LDAP, DNS, SEN, DMZ, WAN, LAN, DHCP, KMS
  • Deployment and management of internal pfSense security proxy server
  • Powershell scripting and automation for Windows and VMWare
  • Windows account management
  • Windows patching, using (IBM BigFix) tool
  • Windows server white listing using Bit-9
  • Symantec Anti-Virus support
  • Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop 6.5, 7.X architecture, deployment, management and support
  • Citrix App Layering, WEM
  • Citrix Netscaler administration
  • Nagios administration
  • Configuration and management of Accellion SFTP
  • Demonstrated knowledge of virtualization concepts and practices; specifically, VMware ESX, VSphere, OSSV and other VMware components
  • Knowledge of P2V and V2V
  • Knowledge of OpenStack virtualization platform
  • Linux (RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu)
  • In depth knowledge of enterprise storage concepts and practices; specifically related to SANs, disk-to-disk and disk-to-tape backup principles and applications
  • File and Print services
  • RSA administration
  • Capable of capacity planning, resource sizing and allocation, and monitoring
  • Understanding of how to implement advanced single sign-on in AD
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex server and network problems as related to job function
  • Understanding of server and application clustering, fault tolerance and high availability
  • Proficient skills with Citrix environments
  • Must be able to work well in a fast-paced team environment and be self-motivated
  • Hardware troubleshooting skills
  • Understanding of distributed file systems
  • Comprehensive understanding of disaster recovery and business continuity practices
  • Ability to create effective and comprehensive documentation
  • Ability to effectively communicate with technical, business staff and executive management
  • Ability to plan proactive processes to minimize reactive responses
  • Effective time management
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and tasks
