Fleet Service Mechanic I

Advanced skilled mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of automotive equipment and related construction equipment. Work is performed on all types of automotive equipment and on heavy equipment. Employees in this class perform mechanical work in the repair of trucks, cars, tractor mowers and a wide variety of other light automotive and construction equipment. Troubleshoots and repairs aerial devices. Works under general supervision of the Manager of Fleet Operations.

Fleet Service Mechanic II

Advanced skilled mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of automotive equipment and related construction equipment. Work is performed on all types of automotive equipment and on heavy equipment. Employees in this class perform mechanical work in the repair of trucks, cars, tractor mowers and a wide variety of other light automotive and construction equipment. Troubleshoots and repairs aerial devices. Works under general supervision of the Manager of Fleet Operations.

Fleet Service Mechanic I 

Performs repair and reconditioning of such automotive equipment as automobiles, trucks and other specialized gasoline/diesel and EV (electric) -powered equipment. Performs various repairs to Hydraulic Systems. Enters work orders in the Faster system. Inspects and repairs transmissions, universal joints and differentials. Makes hydraulic hoses. Repairs hydraulic systems as necessary. Performs cleaning, repairing, and adjusting of fuel injection systems. Performs tire repairs, balancing and truing of tires on both light duty and heavy duty vehicles. Inspects, repairs and adjusts all automotive and heavy equipment as necessary. Performs diagnostic tests with computer scanners and reprograms if necessary. Performs maintenance and repair of heavy equipment as required including engine, differential and transfer case repair. Performs welding and fabrication as required. Performs emergency road service to equipment outside of garage. May be required to work night and weekend shifts. Employee is expected to advance through task system to become classified as Fleet Service Mechanic II. Maintains records and reports of work accomplished through fleet software. Performs related tasks as required. 

Fleet Service Mechanic II

Troubleshoots and repairs Hydraulic and Wiring Systems. Reads and understands Hydraulic and Electrical schematics. Enters work orders and runs reports using the Faster Systems. Inspects and repairs transmissions, universal joints and differentials. Makes hydraulic hoses. Repairs hydraulic systems as necessary. Performs cleaning, repairing, and adjusting of fuel injection systems. Performs tire repairs, balancing and truing of tires on both light duty and heavy duty vehicles. Inspects, repairs and adjusts heavy equipment as necessary. Performs maintenance and repair of heavy equipment. Performs diagnostic tests with computer scanners and reprograms if necessary. Performs welding and fabrication as required. Performs emergency road service to equipment outside of garage. May be required to work night and weekend shifts. Employee is expected to advance through task system. Maintains records and reports of work accomplished. Performs related work as required. 

Fleet Service Mechanic I 

Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and standard practices of the automotive mechanic’s trade. Knowledge of the principles and operation of gasoline, diesel-fueled and EV (electric) powered equipment. Good knowledge of automotive electrical systems. Comfortable with working in and around heavy equipment including bucket trucks and cranes. Ability to diagnose trouble in automotive and other construction and maintenance equipment. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Basic knowledge of windows based systems and the ability to utilize fleet maintenance software. Skilled in the use of tools, machines and testing instruments of the mechanic’s trade. Must be able to work on ladders and lifts at heights in excess of six (6) feet. May work in confined spaces at times. Able to do repetitive bending and lifting. Must be able to lift up to hundred (100) pounds. 

Fleet Service Mechanic II 

Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and standard practices of the automotive mechanic’s trade. Knowledge of the principles and operation of gasoline diesel-fueled and EV (electric) powered equipment. Ability to identify and work through difficult electronic and mechanical issues. Good knowledge of automotive electrical systems. Ability to work in and around heavy equipment including bucket trucks and cranes. Ability to diagnose trouble in automotive and other construction and maintenance equipment. Basic knowledge of windows based systems and the ability to utilize fleet maintenance software. Skilled in the use of tools, machines and testing instruments of the mechanic’s trade. Must be able to work on ladders and lifts at heights in excess of six (6) feet. May work in confined spaces at times. Able to do repetitive bending and lifting. Must be able to able to lift up to hundred (100) pounds.

Fleet Service Mechanic I 

High school diploma or completion of GED and completion of an approved course in automotive mechanics (A.S.E. Certificate) and four (4) years’ experience as an automotive and heavy duty equipment mechanic, preferably in an approved service facility or garage; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Fleet Service Mechanic II 

High school diploma or completion of GED and completion of an approved course in automotive mechanics (A.S.E. Certificate) and five (5) years experience as an automotive and heavy duty equipment mechanic with three (3) years in advanced skilled work in repairing and rebuilding hydraulic systems on aerial devices, preferably in an approved service facility or garage; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Possession of, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment, a valid CDL Class A license issued by the State of Florida.
