  • The City of Greenacres' Compensation Plan allows for hiring at a maximum rate of up to 15% above the minimum range for the position based on education, experience and valid proof of certification(s) that are obtained through extensive program of study and training over and above the minimum requirements. You must be able to meet the minimum following requirements: Must have graduated from an accredited high school, or have obtained a State of Florida G.E.D. certificate or equivalent. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license. Must be of good moral character.Must submit to a post-offer physical examination. The offer of employment will be contingent on the results of testing and/or examinations.REQUIRED INFORMATION AND DOCUMENTS: A minimum of three (3) professional/personal references must be provided. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Position Summary: Plans and directs the regulation and inspection of building construction, electrical, mechanical and plumbing installations; and directs the enforcement of related federal, state, and city laws and ordinances. Technical work reviewing all types of construction drawings, plans, and specifications to ensure compliance with applicable codes and ordinances. Serves as the Floodplain Administrator for the City.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (The duties listed are intended to serve as an example of the typical functions performed. They are not exclusive or all inclusive and will vary with assignments.) Interviews, supervises, and evaluates the performance of subordinates, correcting deficiencies as required. Prepares and administers the Division’s operating budget.Oversees inspections prior to the issuance of construction permits, Certificates of Occupancy, and Certificates of Completion.Supervises technical and administrative staff in the enforcement of city, state and federal codes and ordinances through the code enforcement process.Oversees the regulation and issuance of contractor registrations.Assists the Planning & Engineering Division in coordinating inspection and review of business tax receipt applications for compliance with city codes and building regulations.Oversees and supervises Floodplain Management activities for the City. Directs and conducts field inspections to assure compliance with; applicable building codes, federal state and local laws and rules.Stays informed of code changes affecting building system installations.Reviews city codes, recommends revisions and updates, prepares and presents ordinances for approval by City Council.Reviews and examines a variety of construction plans covering residential and commercial construction for compliance with City laws and ordinances, and State and Federal Laws, Statutes, and Codes.Interprets, explains, and discusses codes and regulations with contractors, design professionals, and homeowners.Appears before the City Council, Special Magistrate hearings and other City Boards, public agencies, and civic organizations to discuss building related issues and regulations.Monitors training and certification records to ensure that all inspectors maintain the requisite specialty licenses and the required training for license renewal.Inspects buildings, structures, and miscellaneous construction work for conformance with laws and ordinances and technical codes.Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, plan review checklists, project status reports, or other documents.Follows up on complaints, violations and their satisfactory completion.Coordinates plan reviews, permit processing, and other work activities with other staff members, other City departments, and outside agencies as needed.Participates in hurricane preparation or hurricane recovery planning and activities as necessary. Serves as a member of various City committees, as assigned.Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable codes, regulations, and standards; reviews new codes and changes to existing codes; maintains an awareness of new methods, materials, trends and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations; attends seminars, workshops, and training sessions as appropriate.Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
High School graduate/GED; Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Must possess and maintain a Building Code Administrator certification by the Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspector’s Board.Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience as an architect, engineer, construction inspector, contractor, or superintendent of construction, three (3) of which must be in a supervisory capacity or any equivalent combination of education/experience and training to meet minimum requirements. Experience in Code Enforcement, Floodplain Management and Business Tax Receipts preferable.Must obtain ASFPM Certified Floodplain Manager within six (6) months of employment.Must possess and maintain one (1) or more trades Building Plans Examiner certifications by the State of Florida. Florida DEP Qualified Stormwater Management Inspector and Federal EPA Lead Renovator certification preferable or obtain standard certification within one (1) year of employment.Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
