Specialty Metals has a career opportunity for a CNC Machinist Level 2. As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of machinists, you will be a participant in the development and modification of NC programs for mill and lathe. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of producing accurate programs, set-up sheets and tool lists enabling first article success on tight tolerance high value parts. This position will directly affect the quality and efficiency of production and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable-machined parts. The ideal candidate will have shift flexibility.

Responsibilities:

• Work under limited supervision; perform complex machining operations in support of production operations or job shop machining
• Operate various types of machine tools and perform progressive machining operations for metal parts, tools and machines with close tolerances and/or high finish requirements
• Check tolerances based on customer specifications using machinists' hand tools and precise measuring instruments
• Development of machining strategy to take design data and produce machined parts
• May program CNC machines in the course of making parts
• Design custom tools and fixtures as needed
• Develop set-up sheets
• Communicate with sales, customer's and machinists
• Work with sales on machine time estimates and job specific tooling costs
• Process improvement (both machining actual inputs and process changes)
• Maintain configuration control on files and job records
• Safely work within an industrial environment

Requirements

Qualifications:

• The ideal candidate will have a technical degree and 2 years of experience, or equivalent
• Experience with setup, editing and operation of CNC Mills and Lathes
• Excellent blueprint reading skills
• Fixture design
• Set-up sheet creation
• Initial feeds and speeds
• Cutter selection
• Design for manufacture experience
• Excellent Communication
• Familiarity with working properties of various metals preferably to include Stainless, Aluminum, Titanium, and other exotic materials
• Experience using precision hand and measuring tools
• Individual must be self-motivating

Desired:

• Programming experience with recent versions of MasterCAM preferred
