POSITION SUMMARY

Supervises the day-to-day duties of the billing/medical record staff for a healthcare organization. Responsible for patient billing, monitors the coding and overall maintenance of records and tracks data related to patient status. Ensures that health information management practices meet Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and state standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manages the billing and medical records areas within the Finance department. Responsible for overall direction of these departments. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting in interviews, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work associated with these departments.
• Competence in Hospice, Nursing Home room and board and Palliative billing processes and systems, general ledger software and excel spreadsheets.

• Prepares monthly journal entries and annual reconciliations of general ledger accounts for financial statements.
• Prepares monthly and quarterly billing reports for the organization and Medicare.
• Completes self-reporting CAP report for submission to Medicare.
• Continual review of the effectiveness, timeliness and accuracy of the agency’s cash flow and management of the billing (A/R) process.
• Respects the autonomy and right to confidentiality of all patients as directed under HIPPA guidelines.
• Initiates contracts for outside services.
• Credentialling physicians with new insurance for Palliative Care services.
• Determines eligibility for use of Patient Care Funds (PCF).
• Is sensitive to the stressors experienced by staff members in working with Hospice patients and families.
• Seeks opportunities for professional growth, including demonstrating the ability to receive constructive performance feedback.
• Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state or organization requirements and is in good working order. Must be willing to travel the entire service area.
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor of Science in Accounting required.
• Previous Hospice billing preferred.
