The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a **Science and Health Advisor, Stroke** for **Office of Science Operations** in our **National Center** office located in **Dallas, Texas** .(Home based work is available)

The Science and Health Advisor is responsible for developing and implementing procedures to develop stroke guideline(s) and stroke performance measures for multiple projects in line with American Heart Association/ASA methodology, style and procedures in conjunction with guideline writing groups. Additional responsibilities include overseeing manuscript preparation for organizational approval and final publication in scientific journals.

**Responsibilities**

Act as primary liaison, project manager, and methodology expert for assigned American Heart Association /ASA stroke guideline and/or performance measures writing group(s) including planning, scheduling, and facilitating committee agendas and meetings.

Identify and develop relationships with expert volunteers for writing group members leading to real-time draft development, face to face meetings and consensus conferences.

Oversee writing group literature review and preparation of evidentiary tables or graphics.

Develop and maintain expertise in American Heart Association /ASA guideline methodologies, styles, and procedures.

Work with online content management systems at various stages in guideline development.

Facilitate content concordance and prevent issues including but not limited to conflicting recommendations across guidelines.

Integrate written materials drafted by multiple authors into a single template and format and facilitate American Heart Association /ASA and partnering organization approval of the guideline.

Assist guideline writing group members with creation of visual displays of data.

Prepare and manage schedules and track progress of guideline writing committees to ensure that the project is running on schedule.

Review board-approved manuscripts for accuracy, format, and style; and prepare files for delivery to journal publishers.

Participate in professional meetings such as the International Stroke Conference (February) and Scientific Sessions Association (November) annual meetings and guideline writing group meetings throughout the year, as needed.

**Qualifications**

Bachelors degree in health science, Public Health, Epidemiology or related Health or Medical Research field.

Minimum of four (4) years experience in medical or health research writing and editing.

Ability to understand, integrate and summarize scientific literature.

Solid understanding of medical terminology

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with volunteers, staff, and the public as part of a team.

Willingness and ability to work with online structured content management system for guideline development.

Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple, complex projects in varying stages of development under time constraints.

Outstanding writing and communication skills.

**Here are some of the preferred skills we are looking for:**

Advanced degree in Public Health, Epidemiology or a health Science

Knowledge of voluntary health organizations or nonprofit organizations.

Demonstrated understanding and appreciation for the use of technology and information systems.

**Compensation & Benefits**

Expected pay range will be $75,000 - 87,000. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials to the pay range may apply. The American Heart Association reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range.
