The Opportunity:

Carolina Friends School (CFS) is seeking a full-time Middle School Spanish teacher to begin in August 2024. Responsibilities will include teaching Spanish for students aged ten to thirteen. The teacher hired for this opening will also teach a range of elective classes based on student and teacher needs and interests. CFS offers teachers an opportunity to engage with students in and out of the classroom and utilizes a holistic, narrative-based approach to student evaluation instead of letter or number grades.

Strong candidates will demonstrate:

• Experience teaching Spanish at the middle school level
• Spanish fluency
• Strong understanding of early adolescent development
• An understanding and appreciation for the Comprehensible Input (CI) teaching pedagogy as well as Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS)
• Ability to foster positive relationships with and among students and parents
• Rich repertoire of teaching strategies to address a variety of learning styles and needs
• Commitment to continuous professional learning, including understanding and application of current research and participation in professional development opportunities
• Ability and interest in collaborative work with colleagues in the Middle School and throughout the School
• Ability to meet varied demands with integrity, enthusiasm, creativity, flexibility, and a sense of humor
• Ability to engage in student assessment and evaluation
• Strong writing and communication skills
• Basic skills in digital communication and integrating technology in the classroom
• Demonstrate strong intra/interpersonal organizational and time management skills
• Demonstrate commitment to understanding and exploring how power and inequality, influenced by factors such as race, class, gender, sexuality, neurodivergence, and different physical abilities, impact our students, families, and colleagues
• Demonstrate an affinity for and interest in the Quaker values as embodied in the CFS community
