Ross Group is Hiring an Engineering Manager Near Oklahoma City, OK

ENGINEERING MANAGER In this position, you will oversee and coordinate the daily efforts for project management, supervision, cost control and estimating, quality control, schedule control, project engineering and field personnel associated with Engineering.

In this role you will

  • Identify and review other identified business opportunities with COO, and Business Development personnel to determine assigned personnel, deliverables and schedule for preparing proposals and associated estimates.
  • Provide input during and as a part of the proposal including but not limited to proposed technology, man-hour efforts, costing, scheduling, personnel assignments, and technical descriptions.
  • Provide high level direction of processes and technologies to be used in both proposals and actual contracted projects.
  • Provide detailed input, conduct reviews, and coordinate the processes and equipment for projects during proposal, detailed engineering, and construction phases.
  • Review all Engineering estimates prior to submission to ensure that all scopes of work are accounted for and addressed within the proposal. Verify that all bid documents are included in the proposal.
  • Identify, investigate, review and recommend new and existing technologies as applicable for all projects.
  • Provide input and direction of detailed components during both engineering and construction phases.
  • Support the management of the workload to maximize production for the current number amount of personnel within Engineering.
  • With input from the PMs, assign people to work on projects. Optimize staff assignments to add the best value to projects, maximize profits, and minimize overhead/G&A costs.
  • Directly support the PMs in all offices to ensure projects are meeting quality, schedule, and budget targets.
  • Actively promote communications between offices and all personnel at all levels.
  • Collaborate with the Discipline Managers and the CAD Manager to improve processes, quality, and overall project performance.
  • Ensure the project deliverables are of the highest quality level.
  • Ensure that a QC procedure is in place and followed for each project.
  • Ensure each project has a schedule and the PM is actively managing the schedule to complete each deliverable on time or early. Ensure the internal review periods are not missed to make up for schedule slips.
  • Ensure each project is managed during the entire project lifecycle to achieve completion of the entire contracted scope of work.
  • Review and approve timesheets for reporting employees. Ensure proper time codes have been used and the timesheet is accurate.
  • Review and approve expense reports for reporting employees. Ensure company policies are applied properly.
  • Conduct periodic performance reviews for reporting employees and based on the results, make recommendations for salary raises and bonuses.
  • Improve the company technical standards on an ongoing basis.
  • Improve the company procedures documents on an ongoing basis.
  • Investigate new and innovative tools to improve our overall performance.
  • Investigate, assign, and authorize personnel to training seminars on new topics and updates related to the mechanical process group.
  • Provide input for the annual budget for the fiscal year. Including: software licenses, professional societies fees, training seminars, conventions, etc.
  • Monitor the department personnel utilization and assignment of personnel to projects.
  • Assist in the recruitment of new staff.
  • Ensure that new hires are properly trained and suitable for the new department positions.
  • Ensure that diligent project coordination is followed within the department and all disciplines and offices.
  • Make recommendations to the COO for additions and/or reductions in Engineering staff dependent on workload.
  • Make recommendations to the COO an for personnel changes when determination is made and documented that an individual is not achieving expectations.
  • Help develop a staffing plan for each project with the respective Project Manager.
  • Review the Project Management effort for each project; verifying that cost, customer service, quality, schedule and safety are maintained from commencement through completion.
  • Review weekly labor hour reports and address as required with respective PM, implementing corrective action(s) as required.
  • Review the cost control development, implementation, and maintenance for each project.
  • Conduct line-item review with Project Managers for cost, customer service, quality, and schedule a minimum of once per month.
  • Work as a liaison for Engineering for issues to be coordinated with Finance, HR, IT, Business Development, Construction, or Industrial Construction.
  • Acquire and maintain licensing and registrations as requested.
  • Identify, recommend, and attend seminars and conferences as requested.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with key clients and maintain project management duties for these key clients.
  • Management will ensure that the billable workload is maintained but minimal so other job duties can be efficiently executed.
As the ideal candidate you have
  • Previous project and departmental management experience required.
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience in related field.
    • Preferred Degrees: Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
  • Licensed, registered Professional Engineer designation with ability to become licensed in additional required states.
  • Ability to plan, lead, organize and communicate with customers/ stakeholders.
    • Note: Definition Customers/ Stakeholders are Owner, Architect, Engineer, Subcontractor, Supplier, Public Officials, any other entity associated with the project and respective entities personnel.
  • Proven successful project history. (Cost, Customer Service, Quality, and Schedule)
  • Ability to work as employment necessitates.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite, MS Project, and other software programs as dictated by engineering projects.
Expectations in this role include
  • Communicating with and through the COO on all engineering group related issues.
  • Maintaining a minimum utilization rate of 70%.
  • Being in the Tulsa office a minimum of 1 day per month for face-to-face meetings and discussions of general and project engineering related issues.
  • Actively and continually promoting communications and a team environment between offices and disciplines.
  • Overseeing maximum of eight (8) Project Management level personnel. Capability of overseeing additional personnel as required.
  • Dependability in meeting attendance guidelines. Managing personal schedule and assigned personnel schedules.
  • Participating in the analysis, deployment, implementation and maintenance of company policies and procedures.
  • Showing initiative in seeking increased responsibilities and volunteer readily for additional assignments when needed.
  • Effectively performing employment responsibilities balancing the utilization of time versus costs.
  • Progressive in increasing job knowledge and exhibit ability to learn and apply new skills.
  • Making timely decisions using sound and accurate judgment while keeping appropriate people informed in the decision process.
  • Identifying problems, gathering, and analyzing information skillfully, and propose solutions. Consulting with entities associated and affected by issue.
  • Planning the coordination of engineering to effectively optimize the use of personnel to support projects.
  • Continually reviewing progress of projects to verify requirements are achieved and identifying issues for resolution early in project lifecycle.
  • Organizing and prioritizing work activities while utilizing efficient time management skills in meeting deadlines or staying on schedule with projects.
  • Communicating effectively, timely, and professionally both verbally and in written correspondence. Verifying that staff is achieving referenced communication skills.
  • Educating staff on company policies and procedures, providing what an employees requirements are and providing why the policy or procedure was implemented.
  • Meeting established goals while demonstrating accuracy and thoroughness to ensure quality of work.
  • Ability to effectively manage the staff through ensuring appropriate staffing, providing formal and informal evaluations/feedback, addressing employee issues when warranted and providing appropriate training and mentoring.
