The Wistar Institute is a world leader in early-stage discovery science in the areas of cancer, immunology, and infectious disease. Wistar is committed to accelerating research advances from bench to bedside through brilliant science and distinctive approaches to collaboration among scientific investigators and academic and industry partners. Wistar's dynamic environment supports the advancement of discoveries that will change the future of human health.
The Wistar Institute is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). All candidates must share our commitment to DEI. The Wistar Institute is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, mentoring, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of our academic/research community.
The Wistar Institute has an opening for a Staff Scientist with specialized experience in multi-omic data analysis, including epigenetic data analyses to join the laboratory of Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Mohsen. Research in the Abdel-Mohsen laboratory focuses on the role of glycans in modulating immunological function during human diseases, with a special emphasis on viral infections. The laboratory, with multiple NIH-funded translational and basic research projects, seeks a preferred candidate with a robust background in viral research.
Candidates with a Ph.D. and a strong background in omics analysis, especially using epigenomic data, integration analysis of multi-omic data, and developing Machine Learning models are encouraged to apply. A strong preference will be given to candidates who also have experience in virology, molecular biology, glycomics, metabolomics, and human-based translational research. Ideally candidates will have at least one to two publications in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals.
The Abdel-Mohsen laboratory is a highly collaborative and supportive training environment where successful candidates will have the opportunity to mentor and train junior lab members, develop new methodologies, and enhance their professional development skills.
Wistar is home to one of the most productive HIV research programs in the nation, focused on studying the immunological and virological determinants of HIV persistence and immunopathogenesis. Wistar HIV researchers are part of the Penn CFAR (Center for AIDS Research), one of 19 NIH-funded HIV research centers located at academic and research institutions throughout the United States. The Penn CFAR facilitates interdisciplinary collaborations among basic and clinical HIV and AIDS investigators at the University of Pennsylvania, the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and The Wistar Institute.
The Wistar HIV research program also leads the Martin Delaney Collaboratory Program, BEAT-HIV, focused on advancing the HIV cure agenda through both basic and clinical studies. The collaborative team includes more than 60 members worldwide from academia and industry.
The Wistar Institute is located in the University City area of Philadelphia, in the heart of the University of Pennsylvania Campus.
