Summary
The IHC Lead Laboratory Technician is responsible for laboratory duties which include but are not limited to tissue fixation, grossing and embedding of tissue and cell lines, sectioning tissue, preparing and completing histochemical staining, immunohistochemistry (both autostainers and manual assays), in situ hybridization and FISH as well support duties which include transcription of specimen results, QC of results, monitoring of the completion status of projects, ordering supplies, monitoring of receipt of materials, filing and maintenance of archives, monitoring of equipment preventative, performance of equipment maintenance, and responding to REES.
Responsibilities

• Prepare and fix tissues, cell lines, and cellular specimens.
• Process and embed tissues, cell lines, and cellular specimens.
• Section and slide-mount tissue sections using either a microtome or cryostat.
• Perform histochemical staining and immunohistochemistry according to Mosaic Laboratories SOPs and protocols.
• Perform in situ hybridization and fluorescence in situ hybridization according to Mosaic Laboratories SOPs and protocols.
• Prepare and QC reagents and solutions according to Mosaic Laboratories SOPs or approved written instructions.
• In the absence of a laboratory supervisor/manager, provide interim supervision and training of laboratory technicians and histology assistants.
• Assist the Study Director with managing the optimization and validation of histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, and other assays developed at Mosaic Laboratories; and monitor the progress of validations to ensure project deadlines are met.
• Perform transcription, QC of sectioning, ordering of supplies, filing of stained slides and paperwork, IHC setup and IHC takedown duties, as needed.
• Monitor the schedule for and completion of equipment preventive maintenance and other recurring events required for regulatory compliance.
• Ensure appropriate training of laboratory staff, including general background, a review of the technique, troubleshooting, and initial hands-on demonstrations.
• Contribute to writing and revising SOPs, and other technical documents as requested.

Education Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical or biological science

Main Requirements

• HTL certification required
• 2-3 years of experience within histology or pathology required
• Prior leadership or training experience preferred
• Experience with sectioning, embedding, IHC, and FISH preferred
• Strong attention to detail
• Focus on process improvement
• Ability to work in a team effectively
• Ability to solve practical problems and to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as protocols, safety rules, and procedure manuals written in English

Working Conditions

• Full time position, Tuesday - Saturday, 5am - 1:30pm.
• Must accept to perform activities in a Biosafety Level (BSL) 1 or 2 laboratory where biological samples may be either naturally or experimentally infected with potentially hazardous viruses such as HIV, HCV, or CMV.
