About the Role
The Director of Retail Sales role is responsible for growing sales in the Retail/Drug/Mass/Specialty channels by selling and servicing large retail chains and distributors. The role requires creating a multi-channel strategic plan consistent with the company's objectives, targeting high value chains and distributors, working closely with broker organizations to gain access and penetrate key decision makers, making effective oral and written presentations, establishing rapport, and building effective relationships. This position will be both a hunter that will grow new business (specifically on East Coast) and lead and grow a small team to further develop the business.
Success is measured by driving profitable top line sales growth, gaining brand presence with national chains, increasing national ACV Wtd Distribution, filling voids on existing and new products, and securing strategic promotional activity. In this role, one is expected to effectively analyze data to evaluate brand, category and competitive dynamics, make data-based decisions and recommendations. Additional responsibilities include contract negotiations and management, effective trade spending, broker commissions and performance, deductions, and assist as needed with A/R issues. The role requires a self-starter, an entrepreneurial mindset, one that owns the business, is able to effectively identify targets, plan their work and travel. Position works closely with VP of Sales, VP of Marketing, and CEO.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver on the company's strategy plans, build all retail channel execution plans.
  • Grow product sales across all retail formats to include retail grocery, mass, drug and specialty chains.
  • Retain and grow existing accounts, maintaining excellent levels of communication and service.
  • Recruit, manage and train brokers as applicable. Support broker reps in the field with training, sales presentations, helping them move opportunities through stage gate - and close the sale.
  • Work with supply chain team to ensure accurate forecasting of new business or changes to existing accounts.
  • Effectively use, engage with internal processes and systems, specifically NetSuite, to enter customer information, leads, opportunities, advance through stage gate towards Closed/Won.
  • Monitor and keep abreast on market conditions and events, customers issues and competitive intelligence. Activity monitor and analyze retail category data, mine for insights, report to leadership on the health of our business, competitive trends, and other important findings.
  • Attend industry events & trade shows, customer related meetings, make effective presentations.
  • Work well with internal account manager, functional teams, and members of the sales team.
Requirements

  • Minimum 15 years' retail experience with demonstrated success in sales and sales management. Experience should include large retail chains, distributors and broker management.
  • Experience selling center aisle products, ideally in better-for-you categories
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving skills.
  • Proven customer relationship, EQ skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, writing, speaking, and presentation skills
  • Strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize task, projects and workload.
  • Ability to learn quickly and become knowledgeable of product line and company systems.
  • Strong technical skills including CRM, Microsoft Suite, virtual presentation systems, etc
Logistics:
This position is expected to be out in the field as much as practical, with some times being more than others. We reimburse mileage for use of personal vehicle. Valid driver's license and proof of insurance is required. The role covers US & Canada
