2050 Partners is Hiring a Senior Consultant: Decarbonization Projects and Programs Near Oakland, CA

2050 Partners is seeking a mission-driven Senior Consultant to join our team in a fully remote role. In this role, you will directly contribute to the execution and management of decarbonization consulting projects that contribute to the development of future GHG-reducing building codes and appliance standards. We are looking for team-members who are passionate about understanding clients’ pain points and delivering pragmatic solutions; dedicated to our purpose of shortening the path to carbon neutrality; and enthusiastic about growing with our dynamic consulting firm.

We are seeking a candidate with diverse expertise so that we can align strengths and interests with different projects. Initial assignments will include one or more of the following project areas: 

  • State building codes advancement and advocacy (energy and green codes in multiple states) 
  • National model building codes advancement and advocacy (ASHRAE 90.1 and IECC) 
  • State and national appliance standards and test procedure advancement and advocacy 
  • Building performance standards – local, state, and national 
  • Local reach/stretch codes 
  • Decarbonization initiatives and research 

Responsibilities include:

  • Be a trusted advisor for our clients by providing pragmatic advice based on defensible data and analysis 
  • Oversee and contribute to multiple projects including technical research, client engagement, subcontractor management, and external stakeholder engagement including:
    • Scoping and launching new projects
    • Supporting primary and secondary research
    • Procuring test equipment and arranging laboratory tests
    • Supporting laboratory and field investigations
    • Fostering coalition-building
    • Supporting legal, regulatory, and policy reviews 
  • Develop and maintain budget forecasts across multiple projects
  • Coordinate research with efforts from state programs and independent entities
  • Ensure high-quality deliverables, including reports and presentations 
  • Contribute to business development and proposal writing

Desired Qualifications and Competencies: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical field(s) is required 
  • 8 years relevant experience
  • Consulting experience and mindset: comfort contributing to complex projects with a problem-solving orientation that prioritizes client needs
  • Ability to learn and apply new skills across interdisciplinary fields, including technology assessments, engineering, economics, statistics, and policy
  • Highest ethical standards
  • Project management track record 
  • Ability to collaborate well with people at all levels within an organization 
  • Great initiative, creativity, and curiosity; work well both on your own and as part of team 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strong attention to detail 
  • Confidence, enthusiasm, humility, and discretion 
  • Willingness for periodic travel 
  • Desire and ability to work remotely 

Desired Experience*

  • Experience related to national, state, and local building codes (e.g., California Title 24 Part 6, California Title 24 Part 11, ASHRAE 90.1, IECC, local reach/stretch codes, state amended energy codes) 
  • Experience related to national and state appliance standards, test procedures, and specifications (e.g., DOE, California Title 20, ENERGYSTAR) 
  • Experience related to building performance standards 
  • Experience related to one or more of the following categories: battery storage; building energy modeling; building decarbonization; electric vehicle charging infrastructure; electronics; embodied carbon; emerging technologies programs and projects; energy efficiency incentive programs; equity; demand flexibility and connected loads; fans, motors, and drives; HVAC; industrial end-uses and processes; market transformation programs and projects; refrigerants and refrigeration; renewable energy; resilience; transportation electrification; water heating; water-using equipment and plumbing; white goods appliances.
