Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This full-time, salaried position reports directly to the Vice President of Pre-Construction, and works to gather, evaluate, and prepare detailed total cost and sale information for cost-effectiveness for and during the pre-construction bid process. The Estimate & Design Technician will visit construction sites to gather information and analyze proposals, specifications, engineered drawings, and construction documents in order to understand the project. 

The Estimate & Design Technician works closely with project managers and sales representatives to coordinate and oversee the estimates used in the bid process. They determine the time, labor, materials, and product costs for the project, and communicate the requirements to the Account Executive/Project Manager. 

Specific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop project estimates with attention to existing conditions, project scope, and plans, and all related facets of access including: 
  1. Scaffolding & Overhead Protection
  2. Hoisting
  3. Shoring, Bracing and Specialty Fabrication
  4. Material Handling
  5. Suspended Access and Swing Stages
  6. Temporary Roof Enclosures
  • Review engineered drawings, conceptual drawings, project concepts, plans, scopes, and specifications in order to understand the project as a whole, and then prepare detailed estimates.
  • Coordinate with contracted engineering partner to analyze and provide drawings and specifications prior to, during, and after the bid process. As necessary, refine project needs and phasing. 
  • Estimate time, labor, materials, and product costs to determine the overall cost for projects, including researching subcontractors and vendors to determine accurate and updated pricing.
  • Prepare cost estimates, budgets, and updates for the client, project managers, and sales representatives.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and job walks, as needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance on estimating documents in conjunction with other key team members. 
  • Attend daily meetings and TEAMS/Zoom calls with internal and external customers. 

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1-3 years of experience in an estimating role, and/or a degree in Engineering or Construction Management. 
  • Prior knowledge and use of Bluebeam, Revit, and AutoCAD software strongly preferred.
  • Design Software experience with PDF editor, Photoshop or similar. 
  • Working knowledge of construction projects and processes strongly preferred. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office with a focus on Excel, Outlook, and other Microsoft and/or scheduling software products.
  • Above average technical and mathematical skills/expertise. 
  • Ability to work in a high-paced environment. 
  • Strong organizational skills and high level of detail to manage multiple projects simultaneously, utilizing effective time management skills. 
  • Ability to communicate across all functions of the business, including sales, finance, and operations. 
  • Proficiency in verbal and written English required. 
  • The ability to pass a background check to obtain government clearances.
  • High level verbal and written communication skills required. 
  • Driver’s License and own transportation required with valid insurance. 

This position works in an office environment, but will also visit construction sites throughout Maryland, D.C., Virginia and beyond on a regular basis, as needed, to obtain necessary information to meet customer needs and deadlines.
