August Schell Brewing Company is a family-owned and operated brewery in New Ulm, Minnesota. We began in 1860 when August Schell, a German immigrant, couldn’t find a traditional German beer in his new home, so he made his own.

While the brewery has seen some changes, like plumbing, August’s legacy of being an innovative brewmaster remains. It has continued through six generations and over 100 variety of German Craft beer. Schells is seeking a summer intern to work as a Lab Technician Intern. 

Overview: 

A Laboratory Technician Intern will be responsible for analyzing samples according to specifications and guidelines. The Lab Technician Intern will take great care in handling the samples, accurately performing analysis, recording in correct logs, and timely data submission. 

Hours: 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday, potential weekends

Responsibilities: 

1. Work with the quality assurance team to perform inspections and analysis of samples taken from critical points in the manufacturing process.

2. Complete analytical and microbiological testing on raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products.

3. Interpret data from the various tests to ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements and report the results to the appropriate departments.

4. Assist with verifying sanitation practices using ATP by swabbing specific areas of the manufacturing facility and reporting results to the appropriate team member.

5. Participate in sensory evaluations to assess the overall quality of current products and when developing new products.

6. Contribute to ongoing initiatives to enhance quality assurance and food safety programs.

7. Support the maintenance of documentation related to quality assurance, including SOPs, HACCP plans, and food safety records.

8. Additional Projects may be assigned.

Requirements

Knowledge and Skills:

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Food Science, Nutrition, Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry or a related field.
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Flexible schedule to accommodate occasional weekend work, as needed.
