We provide food services in an array of celebrated New York City cultural institutions including Jazz at Lincoln Center, Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Wave Hill, and The Apollo Theater. We are known for full-service catering and events, corporate workplace dining and amenity programs, and large-scale event and festival production. Great Performances is the nation’s first caterer to own and operate an organic farm, Katchkie Farm located in Kinderhook, NY. About The Role:

As the Event Designer, you will play a pivotal role in curating and executing the visual and experiential aspects of our events. You will work closely with our Creative Director and sales team to understand their vision, conceptualize event designs, and oversee their implementation to ensure seamless execution and unparalleled guest experiences. This position requires a blend of artistic flair, project management skills, and a deep understanding of event logistics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with clients to understand their event objectives, preferences, and vision for the occasion.
  • Conceptualize event designs that align with client expectations, considering factors such as theme, color schemes, décor elements, and overall ambiance.
  • Develop detailed event design proposals, including mood boards, sketches, and visual references, to present to clients for approval.
  • Source and liaise with vendors, including florists, rental companies, and decorators, to procure necessary décor items and materials.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, including culinary, sales, and operations to ensure seamless integration of design elements with event execution.
  • Manage event budgets effectively, providing cost estimates for design components and monitoring expenses throughout the planning process.
  • Oversee on-site setup and installation of décor elements, ensuring they are executed according to the approved design plan and timeline.
  • Troubleshoot any design-related issues that may arise during events, offering creative solutions while maintaining a focus on client satisfaction.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and innovative design techniques to continuously elevate the quality and creativity of our event offerings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Event Management, Hospitality, Design, or related field preferred.
  • Proven experience (3-5 years) in event design, preferably within the hospitality or catering industry.
  • Strong creative vision and a passion for crafting unique and memorable event experiences.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and/or event planning software.
  • Exceptional organizational abilities and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm and composed under pressure.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, as dictated by event schedules.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed for events.

Location: Bronx, NY

Salary: $80,000
