Shift Type: 4:2 Rotating Schedule; 8 hours per day; 5 days per week

Pay Range: $26 to $28 per hour (Depends on Experience)

Department: Nursing

Open Schedule:

  • 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM
  • 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Reports Directly to: Director of Staff Development

PURPOSE OF YOUR ROLE:

The Restorative Nurse Aide delivers quality rehabilitative, restorative, and therapeutic care to residents as ordered by the licensed medical staff/therapist. RNAs are directly supervised by nursing management. The DON shall designate a licensed nurse to supervise the RNA program. Therapy supervision is provided by the Director of Rehabilitation. The Restorative Nurse’s Aide (RNA) has received specialized training in addition to basic CNA training which enables them to carry out instructions for specialized care as identified below for those residents assessed by nursing, PT, OT, or ST as requiring such services.

  • The main purpose is to interact with the patient and provide skill practice in such activities as walking and mobility, dressing, and grooming, eating and swallowing, transferring, amputation care, and communication in order to improve and maintain function in physical abilities and ADLs and prevent further impairment.
  • Assists patients with long-term treatment and recovery after an accident, surgery, or illness. Support other patients to help them maintain functional abilities or find alternate ways to perform daily tasks.
  • Responsible for helping patients strengthen muscles, recover mobility or range of motion, or work on speech therapy.
  • Follow rehabilitation guidelines for your patients to help them restore skills or to prevent further loss of skills.
  • Help your patients with daily tasks like eating, bathing, and getting around. Work occurs at care facilities or sometimes in a patient’s home.
  • Assist nursing staff in providing restorative care to residents and patients.
  • Perform restorative and therapy tasks on patients as delegated.
  • Understand and administer other clinical disciplines as advised by the doctors.
  • Maintain an integrated approach toward patient outcomes through restorative nursing programs.
  • Gather and document patients’ data for restorative therapeutic purposes.
  • Serve meals to residents and patients in a restorative facility.
  • Monitor and keep track of changes in residents and patients under restorative nursing care.
  • Initiate standards and guidelines in restorative nursing practices.
  • Initiate and implement group and individualized restorative nursing programs.
  • Assist restorative nursing staff in bathing, dressing, and grooming residents and patients.

Restorative Nurse Assistant (RNA) has several duties and responsibilities that they learn through studies and experience. We are looking for someone with experience who is passionate about the healthcare field and willing to learn more.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experienced Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for at least 6 months is REQUIRED
  • A minimum of 1-year experience in long-term care is REQUIRED
  • Interest in working with a geriatric population

EDUCATION:

  • Must have High School Diploma or GED
  • Any related course to physical therapy, nursing, and courses in the natural sciences, such as biology and anatomy is PREFERRED

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a licensed Certified Nursing Assistant in accordance with the laws of this state.
  • Has completed an RNA certification course, including demonstration of skills proficiency through the Quality Care Health Foundation in California.
  • Must have an active BLS through the American Heart Association
  • Must have an active CPR Certification
  • Must comply with Vaccination for COVID-19 adherence to California DOH Policy

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Training in gait belt use, safe transfers, and body mechanics

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Others must be able to understand your speech.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
  • Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
  • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
  • Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
  • Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health and safety of other individuals in the workplace.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility which include a medical and physical exam
  • Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum height of 3 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 10 feet.
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
