Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs

The Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs is a key driver in Gies College of Business’ fundamental mission to provide access to high-quality undergraduate business education. In addition to overseeing components of education such as curriculum and courses, the associate dean provides leadership in closely related areas that help learners succeed, including learning experiences outside of the classroom and the cultivation of an inclusive, supportive learning community.
The Associate Dean is responsible for the strategic planning, operations, and communications for the office of undergraduate affairs, as well as stewardship of a budget of approximately $4 million. This position oversees the recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of 25 staff, including a team of leaders who oversee the administrative areas that include admissions and recruitment, scholarships, academic advising and student success, student engagement, academic affairs, access and multicultural engagement, and global programs. This team oversees the awarding of approximately $4.5 million in scholarships to undergraduate students. The office of undergraduate affairs currently houses two minors, the online business minor and the technology and management minor. The associate dean is responsible for coordinating strategically and operationally with the three academic departments in Gies - Accountancy, Business Administration, and Finance. This position reports to the Executive Associate Dean of Academic Programs and is part of the college leadership team as well an academic programs leadership team within Gies that is comprised of the associate dean of graduate programs and the associate dean of professional education pathways, as well as other key leaders representing areas of shared strategic support. The associate dean represents Gies and our undergraduate learners and initiatives across our campus and system, as well as to our alumni and corporate and community partners.

Duties & Responsibilities

· Leadership in Undergraduate Program Strategy & Management.

• Responsible for the strategic planning, operations, budget, and communications for the office of undergraduate affairs

• Coordinate strategically and operationally with the three academic departments in Gies - Accountancy, Business Administration, and Finance

• Manage a team of leaders who oversee the administrative areas that include admissions and recruitment, scholarships, academic advising and student success, student engagement, academic affairs, access and multicultural engagement, and global programs. Collaborate with leads to develop strategic goals and ensure staff members are engaged in meeting immediate and long-term goals

• Work in partnership with Gies Academic Programs leadership to develop, implement, and evaluate goals and budgets which align with College and Academic Program priorities

• Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications Department to promote professional development activities for staff

• Foster a culture and framework of innovation and excellence

· Leadership in Learner Experience & Community

• Provide leadership in areas that help learners succeed, including learning experiences outside of the classroom and the cultivation of an inclusive, supportive learning community

• Ensure that a learner-first focus is adopted in every touch point we have with the undergraduate students

• Lead the Office of Undergraduate Affairs and ensure all team members embrace and implement the College’s five Commitments: 1) expand access to world-class business education, 2) foster excellence in scholarship and teaching, 3) fuel innovation through a diverse, engaged community, 4) recognize that inclusion permeates everything we do, and it is essential for our learners to thrive, 5) facilitate meaningful life-long engagement with the Gies community

· College and campus representation and liaison

• Serve as college liaison to assigned campus and external committees, task forces, and volunteers

• Represent Gies and University as a thought leader in undergraduate innovation

• Identify mutually beneficial collaboration and resource sharing with other colleges on our campus

· Other related duties as assigned

• Actively participate in and lead select strategic projects as identified by the Executive Associate Dean


Minimum Qualifications

Education: Doctorate degree in education or business-related field Required: 5 years of experience working in a higher education setting.

Experience managing and working within a large team. Ability to work cooperatively and strategically across units, levels and departments. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse internal and external constituents.


Preferred Qualifications

Experience: 10 years of experience working in the higher education field in a student-facing role.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis, or a zero percent Administrative appointment for current Gies Tenure Track, or Specialized Faculty. Salary is commensurate with experience.
